“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The couple working there were really friendly and welcoming, the room was lovely and breakfast was delicious. We took advantage of the City of Bath free 2 hour guided walking tour that leaves at 10.30am every day from outside the Roman Baths and thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely come back to Bath and stay at this hotel again.

Booked at the last minute. Trip advisor had indicated that the hotel was full. So glad that we contacted them directly! The couple managing the hotel were so friendly and helpful, giving a very personal touch. People who are obviously passionate about their work. Breakfast could not have been more delicious- a lovely selection of fresh fruit, cooked breakfast cooked to order. Will definitely return!

We stayed two nights in Bath and they were quiet and relaxing. The hotel is very clean and the breakfast was wonderful. We walked into town once, but opted for taxi rides (about 7 pounds) for the rest of our commutes. Staff here is very helpful and even offered gluten free options for breakfast.

Room Tip: We chose the room without a view and it was quiet and roomy and the bathroom was plenty big.

Booked this last place last min following a trip to longleat and got a fantastic rate off their website late offers section. As it was a mid wk stay they weren't full on arivall so they were kind enough to upgrade us to a 4 poster room. The room was fantastic and beautifully appointed including the bathroom. Breakfast was equally good and plentiful selection.

Didn't want to leave and wish I'd been staying for the wk! There are very few places of this calibre in country..... I even over paid due to the amazing rate I'd been given on the late booking I was that impressed!

We were only in Bath for a night but this was by far the nicest place to have chosen for that. Extremely helpful staff, lovely rooms and house in general, good breakfast etc.

Its slightly out of the way but only a 25 minute walk to central Bath or a 7 quid taxi (with some of the friendliest taxi drivers i've ever encountered too...)

Definitely very highly recommended

Stayed here en route to Cornwall, using it as a base to explore Bath. It is within walking distance of the city and there is a bus stop into town just on the road outside. We had a superb welcome, probably the best and most comprehensive ever and that made us feel good to kick off with. Apsley House does not try to compete with the numerous good eateries in Bath but instead concentrates on setting it's guests up with a good bed and good breakfast. We had a second floor room with great views over the Avon Valley. It was warm and comfy. we acquired fresh milk on request for the tea tray. Breakfast time slot was 90 mins, plenty long enough and not too early. We enjoyed a breakfast bar that competed with other more self important establishments and a nice range of trad cooked breakfast, fish, eggs and a special which changed daily. All in all a very good start to our holiday and left us wanting to go back to Bath to explore more. Would certainly use this again.

We booked the Garden Suite as a last minute deal for an overnight stay in Bath and couldn't have been happier. We were traveling with our 22-month-old son and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The Garden Suite was perfect for us as it has what is essentially a separate room that is divided from the main suite by a heavy curtain and has its own lighting - this allowed us to put our son into his own space for sleeping which was a godsend after a few nights of sharing a room with him. He slept soundly whilst we were able to relax in the main room without really disturbing him. In adition, the room opens out onto the Garden which is just superb for sitting and enjoying a cup of tea or for a run around with the kids.

There is a small bar in the common sitting room which runs on an honesty system and was a welcome sight after a few hours in a car with a small one. A cooked english breakfast was included in the price of the room and it was delicious. Again, our son was made welcome with a high chair already set out for him before we came up to the dining area complete with Thomas the Tank Engine plate and spoon - a real hit!

I would definitely recommend a stay here at full price but the last minute deal is worth looking out for. We stayed in a 5-star hotel in London a couple of weeks later and the personal service and atmosphere did not compete with the enjoyable experience of Apsley House.

Room Tip: Garden suites are lovely if you fancy having direct access to the Garden.
