You can't fault this hotel's location in Bath city centre - you can walk through the impressive boulevard type street, across Pulteny Bridge and you;re there at the Cathedral and Roman Baths.

Our bedroom was a 'superior' room on the first floor. It was well decorated in a mock Georgian style, with a comfortable big bed (duvets not sheet - hoorah!), and big comfy armchairs. My friends had a smaller double on the third floor, but paid about 40 quid less.

Breakfast was not 5 star, but the quality of the organic full english was great, and I like having the option to have omelettes, pancakes or milkshakes for breakfast!! Cool.

One of the best things about this hotel is that you get the impression that the staff care about how it runs, and are very friendly to guests. I asked loads of questions at the reception desk and got quick polite answers - they even looked up theatre time on the net for me. (Though there is a computer in the lounge for guests to use).

I'm going back in Spring next year and taking my mother to do the shops.

The Carfax is a pretty decent hotel if you're going to Bath. Great location, very close to the River and all the main attractions.

There is a great selection at Breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, but the food is average.

Our room was nice, decent enough size. Very friendly reception staff, and good service.

I'm not convinced it is worth 4 stars, but its definately a solid 3 star hotel. could perhaps do with a Bar and a better restaurant.

The lift is a bit dodgy, its best not to put more than two people in it!

“See your room”

Carfax Hotel

Oct 26, 2007

I had an interesting stay at the Carfax. The first night I got a room with a terrible mattress so they moved me to a lovely room on the 4th floor. Great view, great room. The next morning I was going down in the elevator to breakfast and got stuck. When I got out, they nicely served me a late breakfast and moved me down to another room on the ground floor. So I've really seen the hotel and I recommend seeing your room first. The quality is uneven- some are great and some are not.
The breakfast is great. The location is great. The value is great. They even have a car park in the back. 99% of the staff is great- one snotty receptionist but most very nice.

I strongly recommend the Carfax over the County. We just couldn’t take the small room at the County so we moved to Carfax. The rate was a bit cheaper too! It was well worth repacking all our stuff and wheeling the bags around the block. The room was spacious comparatively speaking. Having a reasonably sized bathroom with a tub was nice too. Most importantly the bed was comfortable, great linens and the room was quiet and dark. They have an elevator, tastefully decorated common areas, supper location within walking distance to restaurants. I would defiantly return to the Carfax next time we are in Bath. My only advice would be to ask to see the room before you commit. Our night was peaceful; in fact we almost slept in past breakfast. Breakfast is included in the price by the way.
For a value dining experience try the Pria for Indian curry just a block away. Excellent service and great casual dining.

I have just returned from a girlie weekend in Bath. We stayed at the Carfax.
A fantastic setting, close to the town centre and within easy walking distance of all the places of interest and shops.
The Carfax is clean and the staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast was lovely and the dining room very pretty, if a little tight for space.
My friends and I stayed on the top floor. I had a double room and have to say that if my husband had been with me it would have been very tight. Low ceilings and little space to move about. You had to move the lounge type chair out of the way to open the wardrobe.
The bathroom was 'compact'! You had to climb over the loo to get in the bath, unless you swung the shower door right back.
I washed my hair and found that I was not able to dry my hair as the plug point was by the dressing table/desk and there was no mirror! The mirror in the tiny wardrobe was too far away for me to reach and the mirror in the bathroom would not accept the plug. I had to call down for an extensioon lead! Really a mirror is fairly basic furniture for a hotel room!
On pulling the roller blind closed (there were no curtains) the whole thing fell down on me! I propped it up and reported it the next day. It was placed back up again and when I tried to open it, it again fell down!!
Little things, such as, a box of tissues would have been nice, especially as there were the usual free shower gel etc bottles.
We had a great time, but I was dissappointed with the hotel. A ptiy!
