“Rude, unfriendly and unhelpful staff, average food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2011

I came here with a group of 9 friends and found the staff to be incredibly rude and unhelpful. We all ordered the full afternoon tea.

One of the party doesn't like tea or coffee so asked to substitute it for a coke, which was met with a contemptuous snort from the waiter. No coke materialised and we had to order it again after about 20 minutes of the original order being placed.

One of the party was vegetarian and when placing her order, asked if she could be given just vegetarian sandwiches. The waiter just said "smoke salmon alright?" rather than enquiring politely as to whether she ate fish. She told him that she was completely vegetarian and being that there were only 3 different sandwiches available, smoked salmon, egg, and cheese, simply requested that the salmon one be substituted with one of the others. She was then given the salmon sandwich as part of the 3 sandwiches and told to "swap with others on the table". I find it incredible that in this day and age a catering establishment, particularly a high end one is so dismissive and inflexible about vegetarian's needs. All she was asking was that they swapped the sandwich that would have cost them the most with a cheaper option that they would have had plenty of.

The sandwich selection, as previously stated, was limited to just 3 average and unimaginative fillings. We were not given an explanation of what the cakes were that were being provided, which being that I am allergic to walnuts and one of them was a walnut cake, could have ended badly!

All in all I would not recommend this place at all. My group spent a lot of money there and received little but contempt from the surly staff. There are plenty of other tea rooms in Bath where I'm sure they value their customers much more highly- I recommend that you try on of those!

“Beautiful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

Went for breakfast as soon as they opened on Sunday, and it was like our own private (very fancy) dining room. Truly wonderful experience to sit in the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings and listen the piano being played, look out the windows at the passers by on the street on one side and into the Roman baths on the other side - amazing.
Really great addition to our trip, and the food was delicious! All around great, must do experience if you're in Bath.
