“Great hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Excellent service, convenient location next to train station, and the choice of breakfast was more than usually available elsewhere, including 'proper' kippers. Good value for money in Bath.
The room I stayed in was quiet, very clean and comfortable. Although not the trendiest decor a lot of thought had gone into the facilities, like a shelf space to put your toiletries and ground coffee with cafetiere and a teapot on the room tray. Heating fully adjustable, including in bathroom. Reception staff were most welcoming.
Could not fault this hotel and will definitely stay here again. I enjoyed being here for one night and might stay 2 nights next year.
I am fed up with so called boutique hotels where it all looks wonderful but no thought at all has gone into providing guests with basic practical items like towel hooks, shelves etc.

We stayed 2 nights in a standard room. I would say the hotel struggles to be a 3 star - the bedroom, reception and hallway decor is very tired to the point of being old fashioned rather than period furnishings. But the bathroom was spotless as was the bedding. Because the hotel is so near the train station the bar and lounge is more like a waiting room than a hotel lounge. It is packed with people waiting for the train with no room for the actual residents of the hotel. The smaller bar was only open on one night due to staff shortages (we were told this by a staff member) The noise from the station and road was really bad and kept us awake for a large part of the night. The breakfast was the star of the show with a very good choice and very helpful staff.
We will definitely return to bath but would not stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: Only book if you get a room at the back

Dear Guest

Thank you for staying with us at The Royal Hotel.
The hotel was designed by " The famous Mr Brunel" and we employed a professional interior
designer to prepare a scheme that was in keeping with the age of the building, built in 1846.
The Clubhouse bar was not open on that particular evening because a member of staff fell ill
with the flu.
The Christmas Market is the busiest time of the year for us , hence the lounge bar was exceptionally
busy. My apologies of this caused you an inconvenience.
I am delighted you enjoyed your breakfast and we are proud to boast we have won an award for
the quality and selection we serve.
Once again thank you for staying with us.

Kind Regards

We travelled by car and had arranged parking at the back of the hotel, but the railway station was just opposite so would also have been very convenient. . We stayed in two twin-bedded rooms which were very clean with plenty of tea and coffee etc provided. The hotel was also in walking distance of the shops and spa. Our offer was for one night with a champagne cream tea and a two-hour visit to the thermae bath spa (one free place per room) with the rooftop thermae pool, which we loved. We also ate at the hotel that night for a special rate and the food was very good. Our visit was made even better by the very friendly and helpful staff that were on duty during our short stay. It makes such a difference when you visit a hotel to be made to feel welcome and that nothing is too much trouble. We would certainly visit again.

My friend and I stayed for one nigh while we visited the Christmas market. The hotel is opposite the station, which is perfect situation. We stayed in single rooms, which were really comfortable, even though my room needed decorating, but it was obvious a lot of thought had gone into keeping you comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful,at times I did feel they were under staffed.
Breakfast was good, dinner was a little bland for my taste.
Would I go back-yes

Room Tip: Single room 307-head of the bed was under the window, and was very drafty.Otherwise was comfortable.L...

Dear Guest

Thank you for sataying with us at The Royal Hotel and I am delighted that you will be returning.
We spend a great deal of time compiling a new menu to ensure that the balance of flavours are
correct.
Your dish was not seasoned properly and for that I apologise.
Your comments have been brought to the attention of our Head chef and I know he will take note of
this.
I look forward to welcoming you back to The Royal.

We arrived by train and jsut across the road arrived at the hotel and was immediately check in and went to the room. 2nd floor room 205 near front but facing back but no problem with any road and train noise and we had the window wide open the whole time as we were so hot. (Live on a farm so not used to any noise at all normally!)
Room smallish but adequate and very clean and gorgeous fluffy white towels.
Had B+B rate and then ate one evening at hotel. Great value evening meal and the steak was excellently cooked. Only critism of food was no corinder on squid starter as indicated and coffee lousy. (Think it may have been decaf!!)
Excellent location for the shops, restaurants, bus and sightseeing routes.
New restautant GRAZE across the road well worth a visit.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay at The Royal.I apologise if there was no
coriander in the salad accompanying the squid starter, although I am assured by the chef he had prepared the dish correctly. With respect to your coffee I am in agreement with you that the waiter
had prepared decaffeinated in error as we use Lavazza coffee which is of excellent quality and
generally we prepare coffee in cafetieres to the required strength to suit the majority of our customers and once again I apologise for this.

Kind Regards

Excellent throughout.Location just across from Bath Spa main railway station. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Working lift and services. Fast and free wifi. Impeccably clean rooms. Very quiet. TV, plumbing, hot water all in good nick. Comfortable bed. Hair dryer, trouser press, iron. Full tea and coffee self service in the room with daily replenishment of tea bags and coffee. Even chamomile and herb tea bags provided. Sewing kit and shoe polish. Full English breakfast with a varied menu for the choosy. Superb and reasonably priced food in the restaurant below. Anything less than 5 stars would be unfair!! I would stay there again and again and again... :)

Room Tip: Choose any room...just leave 310 for me;)

I stay here every year when I visit the christmas markets and meet up with my mum and dad.
I had a lovely single room which was just right. It had a comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom.
The food is always very good and the staff are extremely helpful and cheerful!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road if you are a light sleeper.
