“Great little 'boutique hotel' with parking five mins' walk from Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

We spent two nights at Villa Magdala over the Easter break. It calls itself a B&B but it's really an hotel.

When booking, the attraction had been the proximity to the centre of Bath (very close to Pulteney Bridge) and private parking. The staff were, without exception, really lovey, friendly, helpful and efficient. We booked a larger room for £10 per night extra and it was spacious with a large bed, small table and a couple of chairs plus a dressing table. The ensuite bath/shower room was small but perfectly adequate. Complimentary tea and coffee in the room. The breakfast menu was extensive and the full English was huge (I requested a half portion on the second day). Everything was fresh and of excellent quality.

The hotel hasn't been open for a year yet and everywhere is clean and new. The decor is bold but tasteful with large-patterned wallpaper in the bedrooms.

We really loved the place and will definitely return if we go back to Bath. It's also a 5-10 minute walk from the Holburne Museum (free entry) which is really worth a visit, not just for the interesting permanent collection or temporary exhibitions but to see the building and the new extension which is ultra-modern and which houses a great little cafe.

Thank you, i am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We agree with you about the Holbourne Cafe..... we use it ourselves!

Our breakfasts are on the large side - but we dont want anyone to go away hungry! The kippers are proving to be a popular choice.

Hope to see you soon.

We stayed as a couple over the Easter weekend and had a delightful stay. We arrived early on Saturday morning and were shown where to park as we have quite a large vehicle and were then kindly offered coffee and a cold drink for my husband. We chatted about places to eat with the owners who couldn't have been more helpful. We then spent the day in Bath, which is only a few minutes walk from the hotel and returned late afternoon. Again we were offered drinks and a slice of lovely cake before being shown to our room. The room was very tasteful with a lovely view over the park and a very comfortable superking sized bed. The bathroom was large and spotlessly clean, as was the entire hotel. Quality toiletries and super large fluffy towels completed the bathroom. There was a tray of teas, coffees, water, biscuits and fresh milk and a hair dryer in the room. A good sized TV and an alarm which you could also use to charge i-pads, i-phones etc. The hotel has free wi-fi which was useful as we used our laptop to check out local retaurants and attractions. Each morning we enjoyed a selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit, pastries, hot toast and a selection of hot breakfasts. We had an English breakfast each day which was lovely - really tasty bacon. There was also juices, tea, coffee and the offer of a Bucks Fizz. On Easter Sunday there was also a little dish of mini eggs on each table which I thought was a very nice touch. We checked out on Easter Monday and were offered the option of leaving our car there which was appreciated. We didn't, as we going to Oxford for the day but it was nice to be offered. In summary we had a lovely weekend here, the hotel, hosts and staff were excellent and Bath was well worth a visit. I would absolutely recommend Villa Magdala to anyone searching these reviews for somewhere to stay in Bath.

Room Tip: Room 17 was spacious with a large bath

Having read a lot of reviews but never written one I feel compelled to compliment all who worked so hard at the Villa Magdala in making our 2 night stay so wonderful. From the warm welcome - tea, cake and advice on what to do, where to go and recommendations of eateries - we were taken to our "best" room which was superbly furnished and very clean. The beds are certainly something to shout about. Both my fiance and I commented upon the fact that we both slept so soundly - something we find unusual when staying away from home. And yes the only sound in the morning was the birds singing away. The breakfast was as described - fresh and locally produced. My fiance described the full english as the one of the best he has had - no bacon swimming in grease at this place! The pastries were fresh and moreish!! I would highly recommend Villa Magdala and when we return to Bath we will certainly be staying again. Well done to everyone at the Villa Magdala - customer service second to none.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night for our anniversary. We were greeted by Amanda who did a brilliant job of welcoming us- offering us complimentary tea and cake too! Nothing was to much trouble for her and she gave us some great recommendations for things to do and places to eat in the city. She showed us to our room. We had booked one of their best rooms and we were not disappointed! It was beautifully decorated, great toiletries, fluffy towels and free Internet! We had a lovely view of the garden and they had even left us a box of cholates and a card for our anniversary! It was nice and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. We had a gorgeous breakfast - continental breakfast + cooked breakfast with a glass of bucks fizz! Best bet is to book directly through them as breakfast is then included in the price. Her husband John was equally lovely and kept our bags for us the next day as our train wasn't until 5. We had an amazing time and would 100% stay there again if ever in bath!

After a rather strange preliminary welcome by the proprietor who thought we where selling goods due to arriving in my husbands van! However only teething problems as the proprietor and his team where delightful and could not do enough to help. I review many hotels nevertheless this accommodation was unique and in excellent taste. The team are well managed in customer service and have delightful people skills, considering our every need. Creative touches such as offering bucks fizz with breakfast and offering scummy hot cross buns to celebrate Good Friday, There was an exceptional choice of breakfast menu including fresh fruits and yoghurts, fruit juices and a selection of breakfast pastries to start. This was followed by at least ten other breakfast dishes I opted for the customary English breakfast that was displayed beautifully and tasted even better. My husband is a fussy coffee drinker but remarked how good the coffee was. The breakfast room is modern, bright and contemporary in design. The bedrooms offer the same luxury with finishing touches such as quality toiletries and well laid out tea trays offering a good selection of teas and good quality biscuits. The hotel offers car parking though it’s so easy to walk into Bath, only five minutes. At the end of out stay we where offered a permit so that we could extend our car parking even though our stay had officially finished. One last comment the photographs on most of the reviews are outdated and do not do the hotel justice!
