“Good for Bath visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

We stayed on a 2 night break in mid May. Nice room on 2nd floor. Comfy bed and good facilities apart from no wifi capability. Superb freshly cooked breakfast and friendly staff. Great location for getting into Bath and locality. Recommended

Room Tip: All rooms seemed very good. We had one on top floor with lovely view over the garden and valley

Thank you for your lovely comments following your stay with us.

Unfortunately, during your stay we did have a problem with our WiFi (which is normally available free throughout the building) due to a fault. This has since been rectified, however, we also have on the ground floor an internet room where guests again have the use of a computer, printer and Skype.

I am pleased that you would recommend us and look forward to welcoming you back on a future occasion.

We visited the Bailbrook Lodge with friends during a recent visit to the U.K.. The Lodge has tremendous character and personality- from the staff to the rooms - which are each a bit different. One notable difference in the rooms was that ours had a claw-footed bath, while our friends had a shower/bath combination (This is important as it was hard for one elderly member of our group to get in and out of the high basins- so it might be something to request or inquire about when booking).

The staff was very attentive- particularly Daryl who was always eager to answer questions and help. We met the owner twice. He was around one of the days and we mentioned that it would be nice to have non-slip mats for in the shower and within minutes he had ordered some.

Having the bus stop so close made for easy exploration into the city- as we could leave the car at the Lodge and venture at our own leisure- without the hassle of trying to find parking.

Breakfast was another highlight. When you enter the breakfast room there is a long buffet with an assortment of granolas, fruit, yogurts, breads, and juice. To many that would be enough to satisfy at a European accommodation- but at the Bailbrook a delicious full hot English breakfast was included.

We found the Bailbrook Lodge through a TravelZoo deal. The deal included the accommodations, a bottle of wine, a wonderful three-course meal at the Brasserie Brunel (located within a partner hotel in town - perfect location to break up a day of sightseeing), and
afternoon tea.

As it was rather cold during our stay, we enjoyed our afternoon tea by the fireplace in the community sitting room. It included an assortment of sandwiches, crisps, scones, and tea. The room features a window out to the garden, board games and plenty of reading material to enjoy a relaxing evening in. They have free wi-fi throughout the building. It was stronger in some spots than others and I found that it was better in our room than in the common areas.

It was very quiet at the Lodge during our visit since it was out of tourist season. We had a wonderful stay and all 4 of us agree that we would definitely return after this experience- and have recommended it to friends who will be visiting Bath.

Nice B&B, rooms named after Bath dignatories, we were in the Brunel suite (room!). Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, room had William Morris wallpaper, slipper bath but no proper shower, no WiFi, limited internet access via their PC. Plenty of off street parking. Good value, would probably stay there again.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to post a review following your stay with us.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed breakfast and that you found us good value. With regards to the slipper bath we only have 2 bathrooms with this feature as we appreciate that it is not everyone’s choice but we do have some guests that absolutely adore them and there is, of course, a shower attached to the bath which can be use, for example, for washing one’s hair, etc.

With regards to the WiFi, unfortunately during your stay one of the WiFi boxes malfunctioned and had to be replaced and I apologise for this.

I do hope that you will stay with us on a future occasion.

Just returned from a lovely stay at the Bailbrook Lodge. We had a four poster room the Rose Famille suite. Very comfy bed. It had a small well laid out wet room. No bath but when you only stay a couple of days not important to us. It was well located for Bath. Bus stop for number 13 or x31 200 metres down the road and takes a max of 10 mins to get into the centre. Staff were very helpful.
Staying here you got a discount card with your key. Big ben savings. So we got some discounts for a couple of restaurants and the Roman Baths.
The breakfasts were great. Nice touch having a glass of champagne. Good range of continental options and big breakfasts were tasty.
Note for the ladies room does have a hair dryer but only a small travel one so take your own if you don't like to use travel ones.
Some people may say this hotel is a little tired with some of the decoration. It is an old building and i think the decor suites. Its not a contemporary design hotel. I would come back.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs ask for room on first floor. Ours was at the top of 3 flights.

Thank you for your very thoughtful review following your recent stay at Bailbrook Lodge.

I am delighted that you enjoyed our award winning breakfast which we are especially proud of.

We also appreciate you highlighting the point that our decor is designed to suit this Georgian Grade II listed property which was built in 1811.

Last but not least I am delighted that you will be revisiting us and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Lovely house with beautiful rooms.
Staff I found a real mixture. There were two in particular were so inattentive I actually found them rude. A couple of times I found myself completely ignored and felt like I was in the way. Not exactly welcoming! One of the members of staff was a bit better and we always tried to talk to her if we needed anything.
Breakfast in my opinion wasn't very good. All the ingredients were very poor quality eg the cheapest tomatoes, the cheapest baked beans etc. My partner is vegan and when we inquired whether the vegetarian sausages were vegan (having emailed them twice in advance to tell them he was vegan), we were told they didn't know what type of sausages they are as "they just come in a big box", and she had no idea what the ingredients were. I am amazed in this day and age that Chef is using food products without knowing the ingredients.
The hotel is also really far out of Bath meaning you either need to walk 40 mins, get an irregular bus, or taxi/drive.
Unfortunately based on our three day stay I wouldn't recommend this hotel and didn't find it good value for money.

As one of the owners of Bailbrook Lodge, I wish to reply to this review.

Firstly I was more than surprised to read that this guest found any of staff inattentive or rude as we are especially proud of our staff, as evidenced with most of the reviews we receive, they are regularly complimented by our guests. That said if any of our staff were, on this occasion, less than attentive and helpful then I apologise.

With regards to the breakfast, I would like to assure this guest that we do not buy the cheapest tomatoes or baked beans. Our tomatoes are supplied by a local supplier of fruit and vegetables and the baked beans is the leading brand i.e. Heinz. Turning to the requirements of the guest, who was a vegan, having been advised in advance we ordered in special vegan spread and soya milk. We do offer vegan sausages for both vegans and vegetarians, these are totally dairy and meat free with the main ingredients being vegetables and rice. They are not gluten free and the ingredients of this dish is listed in our reception so that vegans can view the content before ordering the sausages.

This customer was offered the vegan butter and milk at breakfast, which was declined.

We very much regret that this guest did not enjoy their stay with us and although we accept if any of our staff were inattentive or rude this is very much our responsibility to be dealt with, but we do not accept that we did not do our best to provide vegan friendly food for this guest.

Stayed at the Bailbrook Lodge for three nights & had a very comfortable stay,we could not fault the staff who were friendly & efficient but not overbearing, our four poster room had a lovely view over the garden & surrounding area. Cooked breakfast on all three mornings was excellent (complements to the chef) croissant & pain au chocolat were light & fluffy & the champagne was a nice touch. We had a lovely walk into Bath along the canal & after a day in Bath returned by pleasure boat. On recommendation from the staff we ate dinner at the Bathampton Mill which is also excellent & well worth a visit. Overall our visit to Bailbrook Lodge couldn't have been better, thank you to all the staff, Eddy & Elaine Robinson.

Room Tip: room overlooking garden
