“Surprise at the quality of this meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We ate at this restaurant after viewing one of the exhibitions. It was very rainy. The staff were very friendly, and the food surprisingly innovative and really fresh. Not at all what I've come to expect from Museum restaurants. The view is delightful, being through great glass plates out to the gardens beyond.

“Quirky and with a great restaurant!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

The main core of the Museum is built around a private collection of seriously varied stuff - he must have been a squirrel! It is great fun and very interactive (children (10 plus to be fair) would love it)The temporary exhibitions are tremendously varied - we've been to a super Gainsborough one but this one was linen folding (sculpture) by Joan Sallas (Catalan living in Germany) You will never look at your napkin folding in the same way - it moves to Waddesdon in June I think GO GO GO ! The restaurant is in a mega-modern glass extension at the back - it is super and great value.

“Not large - but rich in quality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

The collections here are wonderful, from the ceramics on the ground floor to the pictures on the top. Between is the ingeniously, even humorously, designed display of the treasures of the founder, Sir William Holburne. I'm going back for a second visit as soon as I can!

“A Gem of a museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

One of those stunning smaller museums based on the collection of a single individual that are such a part of England's cultural heritage. Eccentric but brilliat and with some real standout masterpieces such as the Gainsboroughs This is must if you are visiting Bath. And its free!

“Terrific Small Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

We went to the Holbourne because of a special portrait exhibit, but we were delighted with the collections of the museum as a whole. The place is fillled with wonderful paintings and an assortment of treasures--most of them small in size, but of very high quality--and the exhibit spaces are brilliantly arranged. I'd say this is a "must see" for anyone who visits Bath and has an hour or two to spare after the obligatory visit to the Roman Baths.
