“Roman Baths are not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

The Roman baths are stunning, they spread out under the current ground level and it is a surprise to find out how much area they cover, do take the portable audio guide with you it make all the difference. I cannot advise drinking the waters (on offer at the museum) as the taste is awful - us Brits seem to work on the theory if it doesn't taste bad it can't be doing you good. Just imagining it as it was before the Romans came and the Celts worshipped there, then the legions travelling there and all the workers and commerce and noise of travellers etc - it all makes a chill go down my spine. The buildings are modern - around 1867 I think - in addition the Georgian Pump room is elegant, the architecture is beautiful and you enter the world of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer, don't miss it, you can visualise all the well to do "taking the waters" and strolling around.

“So much more than I expected, an amazing roman gem beneath the streets of Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

I know this is going to sound like a bit of a stretch, but having visited Pompeii earlier this year, the baths come very very close. I expected to see just the bath that you see in the photos, but it is so much more and spreads for some distance under the streets. Incredibly well preserved example of a Roman bath, almost as good as you will find in Pompeii, expect this one still has the geothermal water! The audio tour is excellent with a choice of recordings including children's version and commentary from Bill Bryson. Do not go to Bath and miss this

“Roman Baths”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

I am not a native of Bath but have now lived in this area for the majority of my life and I have to say that the Roman baths are fantastic and the presentation is also fantastic. I am fortunate to have been able to swim in the Baths, which has long been prohibited, and can well appreciate what the Romans thought was so good about Bath and it still is.

“Really interesting but busy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Love visiting the Roman Baths and seeing all the lovely architecture, however it is best to avoid weekends and school holidays if possible, as it gets REALLY busy. The audio guide is good, but again on busy days it is difficult to see what your listening about. Shame not more of it has been uncovered.

“Great Historic Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

Well worth your time to go through. Your tour is individualized through the use of recorded narrative on a mobile device, so you can go at your own pace. The ingenuity of these early Romans is quite remarkable in viewing the engineering that took place to turn a natural hot springs into a splendid temple of baths centuries ago.
