Absolutely beautiful hotel, lovely decor, friendly staff. Complimentary upgrade to a four poster suite upon arrival and the manager was very helpful as we had never been to Bath before and he gave us a good insight into the attractions.

Excellent value for the surroundings, delicious breakfast in the Cavendish Restaurant, and a short walk away from the town centre (about 5 minutes) so lovely and quiet in the evening

We stayed here for 2 nights when attending a wedding at nearby Priston.

Check-in went smoothly and my travelling companions room was upgraded to a suite, free of charge. I was shown to a very nice room on the 3rd floor (NO lift!).

We had supper in the restaurant on the first night which was very nice. I felt the bar, where we had an aperitif, was a bit staid.

At night I could hear the odd traffic noise from the cars in Great Pulteney Street. Nothing that would put me off a return visit though.

Breakfast is superb. Lots of toast & coffee and the Full English breakfast is one of the best I have ever had.

Pros:-
Great location
Friendly service.
Very nice rooms
Free wifi

Cons:-
No lift.
Perhaps a little too traditional
Dull bar area

We had a very enjoyable 3 night break at Dukes hotel in August. All the members of staff we spoke to were extremely friendly and helpful – both when booking the break and during our stay. We were made to feel very welcome

Dukes is an elegant Georgian townhouse and, in keeping with that, most of the bedrooms are traditionally furnished, however, we prefer a contemporary style, and chose a 3rd floor suite (Somerset) which was light and airy with skyline views – a lovely, comfortable room. I should mention that it was quite a climb to the 3rd floor (Dukes do not have a lift) but we didn’t really find this a problem. There were tea/coffee making facilities in the room, which is a must for me - who would want to wake up and not be able to have a nice cup of tea!

Although Dukes is centrally located, parking was no problem – the hotel provided us with a street-parking permit (for just a nominal charge) and we didn’t need to move the car again for our entire stay.

There are plenty of good restaurants in Bath, and the Cavendish restaurant at Dukes should certainly be counted amongst these. We had dinner there on one evening of our stay and found the food and service to be very good – sadly, the restaurant is not as busy as it deserves to be. Breakfast was included in our room rate – and we thought the freshly cooked breakfasts were excellent

There is a pretty patio garden off the bar - but, once again, this deserved to be busier – which would have added to the atmosphere

We would certainly go back there again – excellent, well done Dukes!

Also worth a mention is a lovely French restaurant we were recommended to – Casanis in Saville Row (close to the Royal Crescent and Assembly Rooms) – what a delicious meal and delightful staff – well worth a visit

Really nice situation in historic street, lovely building, nice rooms, no problems parking, generally friendly helpful staff apart from my breakfast order taken one morning whilst at the buffet, also inconsistent maid service, toiletries were never replaced and the base of the shower screen was filthy. Somewhat disappointed considering its rating on this site. IMO this is not really an hotel more an upmarket B&B with a very quiet restaurant attached. Did have a very good meal but no atmosphere as were the only people there. Breakfast is average. Wi-fi included.

We arrived on an early flight from Newcastle, getting into Bath at about 9am having been up since 5am. I'd emailed the hotel manager earlier in the week to let him know of our arrival time (to check we could leave our bags - I knew check-in time was much later in the day).

When we arrived we were greeted by name as the manager Mike had obviously made a note when I emailed. This made us feel very welcome, as did the fact that we were able to check straight in! The room we'd originally been allocated was still occupied so we were upgraded free of charge to let us check in early... how nice. This meant we could have a nap to recharge batteries before exploring the town.

Mike showed us round the hotel and our room and although there were already tea-making facilities, offered to send up some fresh tea to our room while we settled in.

Mike was very enthusiastic about Bath and had lots to say about it, and lots of suggestions about where to go, but was not pushy or overbearing at all. His tip about the eggs benedict at the Pump Room was very welcome as we were starving after our trip.

The hotel is well-located, just a 5 min stroll into the centre of Bath and is on a quiet street with permit parking (hire permit from the hotel). The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and big, and clean. The bathroom was also nice and clean and the shower was great.

We didn't eat in the hotel but the menu looked nice.

All in all a great hotel, so much so that we are planning to send the in-laws here on a trip to Bath for their Xmas present this year.

My girlfriend and I travelled to Bath for her birthday and decided to find a hotel on our arrival rather than pre-booking. We therefore visited Baths’ Tourist Information Centre and read through their Hotel Guides and of all those available, Dukes Hotel seemed to standout for us. We headed off their and were met by the Hotels Reception Manager, Mike Jackson, who could not have made us feel more welcome – we even got an upgraded room. Our room was located on the second floor, the Rutland, and I must say it was lovely despite the stairs - but hey, you cannot have everything. The room itself was very clean, spacious, bright and away from the main road. Not sure if I missed it or not, but there was no Mini-Bar, but room service is available. The food at the hotel is exceptional and it was worth getting up early for breakfast. The trip itself was lovely, made all the better by the exceptional staff, especially Mike (the Manager) and Roman (the Night Porter) who are an absolute credit to this hotel. To top it off, Mike even arranged a birthday gift for my girlfriend – what more can I say – a fantastic break away. Highly recommended and will certainly return in the near future.
