“The Halcyon - 'Amazing Hotel'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel 2 weeks ago and it made our visit to Bath the best we have ever had. On arriving the reception staff were so helpful - they advised us of the best restaurants and things to do in Bath - there was no need to do this, but they went out of their way. The room was modern, clean and warm - love the funky hot water bottles and mini sweet jars (£2.50). Very central to Bath and check out was easy and quick. All round an amazing hotel.

Firstly we needed an hotel in Bath within walking distance of everything it has to offer but also so that we could look at properties for sale. The Halcyon was perfect - we walked to the Southgate shopping mall nearby (along with all other stores), viewed properties over a four day span and were able walk a few hundred yards to the Bath Station for our eight minute trip to Bradford-on-Avon. We dined literally around the corner at a Nepalese restaurant - highly recommended.Secondly, Hector and his team did everything they could to help. We were laden with luggage so they gave us the ground flooor studio room. You can park the car across the road in the Southgate secure car park at a daily rate of twelve pounds. They took the keys and parked it for us. There are short term parking bays on the street and as it is closed off carrying luggage in and out is no problem.

The service above does not stop at the above!!!! Every offer of assistance is given from recommended sightseeing, attractions, restaurants, where to shop etc. It is a personalised boutique hotel with personalised service. It also houses "Circa" which is the most popular bar in Bath - again stylish and very trendy. The rooms are modern, understated chic and have everything and more to make your stay enjoyable. A "mini kitchen" provides the usual fridge, tea/coffee making facilities etc but there is a sink, microwave, toaster, crockery and cutlery encased in an integrated cupboard. Drinks, confectionary and other nibbles are also available. Wi-fi and Sky TV are part and parcel of these well equipped amenities. Perhaps the best of all was the wonderful shower head with piping hot water followed by "The White Company's" toiletries!!!!!! My only suggestion to Hector as practical criticsm was that it took us a while to find which switches did what in terms of lighting, fans and electrical appliances - I suggested a map might be handy!!

The hotel was originally booked for three nights on a special package rate for this time of year of "3 for the price of 2". We found on arrival that we would need an extra night. There was no problem once again with both this and getting the same rate as the offer.

Finally, when in Bath there is non better than The Halcyon - we highly recommend it in every way and will return!!

Room Tip: We only saw the Studio on the ground floor which suited us for ease and convenience. The Halcyon ha...

Stayed here for one night end of January, paid extra for a queen room and it was worth it. The hotel has modern decor and very tidy. The room was lovely and clean and the bathroom nice with a walk in shower. Would def recommend and I would stay there again.

The best hotel I've ever stayed. The room was fantastic, the bed so comfortable that was hard to leave every morning.
The staff was very, very friendly and helped us everytime we needed.
Very good location also, a really short walk from the train station and the Roman baths.

I stayed at The Halcyon for one night in a studio room taking advantage of a New Year promotion rate. The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of the beautiful city of Bath just moments away from the Roman Baths and the Abbey and less than a minute walk from Bath Spa station.

The room was stylishly decorated and well equipped. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. I would go so far as to say it was the most comfortable bed I have slept in in any hotel, anywhere. The bathroom was fitted in a contemporary style and the rain-dance shower head was wonderful. It's a shame that the bathrooms do not have baths but I suppose that's got something to do with it being a converted townhouse and not a purpose-built hotel. One minor grumble I have (and I stress the word minor) would be the lack of available electrical sockets in the room. My room had two that I could find but they were not in particularly convenient places (one was in the kitchenette cupboard and the other was hidden behind the bed). This is a little irritating for someone who travels with lots of gadgets but not something that would put me off returning.

Overall a very pleasant experience. I have no hesitation in recommending The Halcyon for anyone visiting Bath.

I love this hotel. The rooms are comfortable, clean and chic with good bathrooms and White Company products. The parking is now no problem at all. The new Southgate shopping centre has masses of space in a covered secure car park and at a very reasonable rate. Two minutes from the station too.

The staff are friendly without being familiar and professional without being standoffish. The bar/little restaurant downstairs now serves excellent Italian inspired food and everywhere, the attention to detail is spot on, with the decor clean, modern and original. Thanks particularly to Emily for keeping me company at breakfast because I was the only guest there at that point and who also served me delicious food in the bar the previous evening. ( by the way, if you like real cocktails, this is the place for you) talking of breakfast, when they say they 'only' served continental, be prepared to get through fruits, cereal, juices, breads, croissant , ham, cheese, crumpets and boiled eggs.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 3.5 which is at the top of the house and very quiet. The room was plenty big enough...

We booked to stay in The Halcyon after reading lots of good reviews and seeing their excellent January promotion online. We called ahead to check we'd be allocated one of the slightly larger rooms as we were bringing a baby along, and the hotel staff were so accomodating and gave us room 1.1 which I believe to be one of the largest rooms, and it's nice and quiet at the back of the hotel.

The staff were excellent-very friendly and helpful, could advise you on lots of aspects of your trip.

The room was a studio-very cleverly laid out with a separate area with table and chairs and a sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Bathroom was nice and modern with a nice powerful shower (no bath). Bed was comfy. Room was nice and warm.

The location is fantastic for exploring Bath, and so close to train station (although we did drive and parked in Southgate Car Park).

All in all, a fabulous place to stay and great value at the promotional rate. Have already recommended it to friends!
