“absolutely fabulous B & B... close to Bath centre, pubs, and parks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2011

We have to say that the poor reviews do not reflect our stay at the Lampost B & B, we were welcomed and offered advice for sightseeing and the baths, we stayed in room 3, the bed and linen was spot on,the room was warm, clean and a minimal but sufficient breakfast was served, the dining room is next to the kitchen and cleanliness was not a problem.
We have stayed in 4/5 * hotels and have to say that we will return in a few months and book here again. We travelled from Northampton and had a wonderful weekend in Bath.
Thanks to the Lamp Post hotel and Its staff.

After reading the reviews after booking we were expecting the worst and sadly they proved to be correct. The house needs completely deep cleaning and updating. The decor is outdated and the furniture mis matching.
The room we stayed in had just enough room to fit a double bed in and it was a squeeze around the dressing table and sides of bed. The bed linen was clean and laundered, but with only one hard pillow each, meant we had little comfort.
The toiletries supplied consisted of an economy size hand anti bacterial handwash on the basin, 2 open and half used shampoos and 2 open and used soaps. The sink and taps were not clean and the loo seat was peeling - maybe from painting. The shower was a plastic shower head leading from the taps and was difficult to control the heat, though the water was hot. The whole room felt fusty.
The breakfast was staggered as there were 7 more guests than could be accomodated. Coffee, tea, cereal and cheap tasting juice was available. The cooked breakfast was acceptable but cheap ingredients. Toast was delivered to the table warm and we were asked if we wanted more. I did not appreciate the cleaning of plastic table cloths with spray solution around me whilst eating
The gentleman in charge - not sure if he was the owner was polite. He was the only person we saw - checking in, cooking and serving.
Overall I would say that the accomodation needs some investment, the price is comparable with some good hotel deals - so you expect more. I do not appreciate being asked to pay for parking when I stay away.
The benefit of a stay here was that it was a convenient walk into town, though there are plenty more guest houses to chose from along the road. Do your research!

worst thing was the shower, broken when we arrived.Cold shower first morning, then supposedly fixed but would only give a scalding hot dribble or another cold shower. The owner knew it was faulty and pretended to care ,but did not fix the problem.
The cooked breakfast was the worst I have ever been served, innedible. Plenty of toast and cereal though.Coffee very weak and I suspect the coffee machine had hot water run through the old coffee grounds more than once.
The room itself was ok,spacoius enough for myself and 2 daughters.Itwas clean with comfortable beds
The hotels position is good for the shops and centre of Bath, but Iwould not stay there again

Book at Lampost Villa if you like no heat in your room, no cold water in the bathtub, inedible breakfast, absent host, rooms that are not clean, no clean towels, dirty coffee mugs and no place to park that is accessible. We spent two nights there as we were asked to pay immediately upon arrival before we saw the rooms. The host (term used loosely) was called to say we would be arriving at 3:00. Upon arrival, we found the door locked and a note saying check-in was between 5:30 and 6:00. Another telephone call, waiting on the front step in the freezing cold for fifteen minutes and we were ushered in and asked for payment. Our rooms were in the attic and one had no heat. We did tell the owner about it, but nothing was done. The rooms were tacky and dirty. Breakfast the next morning was a joke. A minimal "full English" of not properly cooked egg, one horrid sausage and undercooked bacon with a half tomato was thrust in front of us. Toast for four consisted of two slices of undertoasted white bread cut into halves and a small tea pot for the four of us was brought after asking for it. I made the mistake of asking for scrambled eggs and a watery mess was put on a plate and brought to me grudgingly. Please look for other places to stay in Bath. Although this B & B was within walking distance of the Christmas market and other shopping, it was a horrible experience.

Positive:
The location is great, easy walking distance to all attractions.
The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Negative:
Very basic room with almost inadequate bathroom facilities.
What you get definitely does not match the price you pay.
Parking is advertised but actually it is a public car park which is ₤13 a day.

We read the reviews beforehand and came with no expectations so we were not disappointed.
It was a bed for the night and that was good enough for us on this trip as we spent as little time there aspossible.
But I doubt we will ever go back.

Their website shows that the owners clearly know what attracts customers - a picture of a nice, light bedroom and a clean, white bathroom with fluffy towels. Our rooms looked nothing whatsoever like this!! I had to check their website again when we got home to make sure it was the same place. The decor was tired, the furniture mismatched and cheap, no blind or curtain on one bedroom window, the bathroom light above the sink was broken, the fan was caked in dust and the rooms were cramped. At breakfast one bit of toast had mold on it - not exactly "the best in Bath" as claimed on their website. On our one and only night I lay in bed awake longing for morning so I could get out of there. The only redeeming grace was that the man running the place (employee not owner) made a big effort to be friendly and helpful. Overall I thought it was hugely overpriced and their website leads you to anticipate a much more upmarket and stylish place than it actually is. It totally spoilt our experience of staying in Bath.

We stayed here in August with a number of friends, in all we had 4 rooms.

The rooms themselves are tiny, the en suites are inadequate. We were there for a wedding, we'd all got up for breakfast (I'll critique that in a moment) and had showered and head off into Bath, came back at lunchtime to change and head off to the wedding, to our horror there was no hot water. Shouldn't be an issue but as the people who run this place do not live on site there was no-one around to sort the problem out.

They claim to have the best breakfast in Bath, couldn't be further from the truth, I've had way better breakfasts at the side of the road. The service at breakfast is shocking, we had to constantly ask for things such as toast and tea, as soon as you sit down you get presented with your breakfast, if your not ready and want to have cereal they put it under the grill!!

The place is generally tired and in need of some money spending on it, would strongly advise people to stay clear of this place.
