Description: The Salamander is great city-centre pub with none of the social stigma attached to some of the bars in Bath. ‘The Sally’ serves good food and a fine choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond, and welcomes a friendly, eclectic audience. It’s small, it’s snug but it’s oh so special! The Salamander is tucked neatly away just off Queen Square in the heart of the Georgian city of Bath. Historically a ‘steak and chop house’, it now consists of a wonderfully simple bar on the ground floor and an impressive dining room complete with galley kitchen upstairs.Using the finest produce from local suppliers, ‘The Sally’ is renowned for its imaginative and varied menu, available both downstairs in the bar and upstairs.

“Cosy pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

We found The Salamander by chance when escaping the rain and sat upstairs in the dining room as it was quieter than the bar area. It was around 2:30pm on a Sat, and all the daily specials had run out. I would recommend from the menu: pork & scallop dish; horseradish dumplings with brisket dish needed more salt. Service was good and would recommend eating here.

Thanks for dropping in! Glad you enjoyed our menu. Our new spring menu launches very soon. You'll have to come and sample that too!

“Nice food, slow service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

A nice pub with a good ambience. We just went in for bar snacks but took over 45 minutes to get them.

My sincere apologies for the wait on your food on your visit. Due to the size of our kitchen, this has been a running theme through out December as I'm sure you can appreciate how busy we have been!

Once again, I'm entirely sorry we didn't manage to communicate this to you before ordering.

Please pop back in January or February to take advantage of our 25% off offer! We'll have the same great food but a little quicker!

“First visit, will return!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Very pleasant upstairs room, liked the decor, and location very central, just at the back of Jollys.
Went for a Sunday lunch. Two extremely nice waitresses, excellent bottle of soft Sicilian red to go with our pork. Food itself was excellent, too, roast with decent potatoes, red cabbage, parsnips, carrots, kale, all cooked enough to still be ever-so-slightly crisp, just as they should be. Pork belly was good, too, although if I had to be really picky, I'd say it could have been warmer. But for £12 you can't quite expect perfection and it was certainly crackingly (or possibly cracklingly) good value. Bit of a shame the girls' aprons weren't clean at the start of the shift, though.

So good to hear your crackling review of our roasts! So glad you enjoyed our meals and the wine, the Sicilian is a great choice!

Apologies for the young ladies aprons. I have been working them to the bone throughout December so Ill take the rap for that one!

“Not bad but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

Went with a group of 8 people, pre-ordered the menu options only to be told on arrival that they had "run out" of some of them so re-ordering had to be done. My own starter of duck terrine was very good. Main course of belly of pork with scallops was OK, but served virtually cold which detracted from the quality of the food. Orange creme brulee was good (sugar grainy - not all caramelised) but a little too sweet for my taste. For all of the reasons above, I gave the title of this review as good but not great. Somewhere to try again on another night.

I can only apologise once more for failing to reserve the food you had pre ordered. Unfortunately, and this is no excuse as we should be well accustomed, we we're incredibly busy the week and day of your meal and we simply were not prepared for the amount of covers we had served that day!

I would love for you to come back and take advantage of our fantastic 25% off offer that were running through January and February and let us take care of you properly!
