“"Great evening - wonderful food!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Went to the Chequers to celebrate my husband's birthday and we had a wonderful evening. The staff were helpful and polite and the whole atmosphere of the place was warm and friendly. The quality of the food was fantastic, beautifully presented and tasted amazing! Would totally recommend and look forward to visiting again.

“Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Great food and great atmosphere. Surely will not be long until Michelin give this place a star. We did not have a reservation but were seated quickly and found the service to be very good.

What makes this place stand out is it's fantastic food which showed great imagination and fantastic fusion of complex flavours.

Highly recommend it, I'm going back very soon to try Sunday lunch

“poor portion size”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

I've previously given the Chequers a very good review and I do still like it but have recently noticed that some things are going awry. I went with seven friends and they asked us to pre-order food, which is fair enough for a large group; however, our portion sizes varied widely depending on what dish we chose. The three most expensive meals we ordered (hake with chorizo, red pepper and cassoulet) were really stingy portions - the fish (which the waiter unwittingly admitted was actually cod and not the hake we had ordered) was a 2" square, thin fillet served beside slices of chorizo and 3 halves of roasted cherry tomato and a separate lidded ramekin of cassoulet. This perhaps wouldn't have been so embarrassing for me as the person who suggested going to the Chequers if everyone else's meals hadn't been twice the size. The three of us felt really quite cheated, especially as we were paying the most.

On the other hand the food was all very tasty and the atmosphere of the Chequers is friendly and relaxed - but I really think they need to be more reliable. This seemed very underhand and money-grabbing.

“Great pub & food in Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Just a short walk from the city centre, this is a pleasant pub with great food and service. Food is not cheap but is of a good quality, well cooked and presented. The wine list is good too (for a pub). Highly recommended.

“Mr”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Went on Sunday evening for an enjoyable "Sunday Lunch". Food excellent as was the service and atmosphere, even chatted with the couple on the next table who were recovering from Bath's Half Marathon and got some useful advice about Bath Uni from the friendly waiter. The restaurant seemed fully occupied for the duration of our meal so would advise booking in advance. Would go back again.
