“Lovely homely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

We spent 2 nights here recently and were pleased with the accommodation.
Our sat nav had trouble getting us there as there is a one way system in operation and we missed the first turning and had to go right round the town again.
There is restricted parking at the front of the hotel, cars had to be parked 2 deep but we left our keys at reception and the owner moves your car if someone wants to be out before you.
The rooms and the hotel are a bit dated but comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent
We found it quite noisy late evening as there is a pub next door and they were noisy when leaving and our room did not have double glazing.
The hotel is perfect for walking into town and Shrewsbury town is well worth a visit. We will be back and next time do a walk along the riverbank.
Very enjoyable 2 days.

Stayed here over the weekend. Lovely cosy and homely place, felt very welcome, Barry and Irene were lovely people, and very informative about the hotel and the local area. Very central wjth the town almost on the doorstep, parking space provided at the front. Breakfast was lovely, not a buffet but whatever you wanted cooked to order, along with the usual cereals and fruit. The rooms were small but comfortable. Byron the night porter was a character! No noise from the pub next door and we had a front room.

I stayed at Abbots Mead as part of a large group cycling sustrans route 81. At the end of a day in the saddle it's was fine. I would say same as other reviews, the decor is a little old, the room I was in was little small but all I really wanted was a place to crash and recovery aching muscles and for that it fit the bill.

Breakfast was nice enough. I had scrambled egg on toast but the toast wasn't buttered so it was a bit dry. The kippers that others in the party had looked nice and I regretted not ordering them when I saw them.

What can you say good hotel nice guy on reception. We had a big room parking not a problem but the guy needs your keys to swop cars round I did not see this as a problem
When I needed some paperwork printed off from the Internet again no problems we had a great time in your hotel and will be back well done you should have four stars

Start with cons.
Carparking free ,yes but you are asked to leave your keys, does the hotel have insurance for this.when you go out then come back your car has been moved,
Carpark has not enough spaces for the amount of rooms.
Looks in a quiet place but its not, next to a pub that plays music till closing , in a residential area with a guy always doing diy, on a busy road leading to a big carpark, think its a through road for shrewsbury.
Price,, high for a two star,
Rooms are small, youll be surprised when you arrive.
Hotel,is dated 1970 feel.
Small tv in room.mounted eight foot high.
Internet takes a while to connect.

Pros
Breakfast good and staff friendly, but i think they know the above...

Sorry to have so many cons but there true and honest.when your paying these prices.
On our leaving there a lovely premier inn on the way out with a beer terrace/garden.

Thanks jim

We had a lovely weekend stay in this hotel. I can only echo the positive reviews left by previous guests. Although a little dated it was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our shower was the electric type and therefore easy to regulate, the staff were welcoming and friendly and the breakfast delicious. The room was a little on the small side but the space was planned efficiently so everything had its place and for a weekend it is in an ideal location. Our hosts were discreet but still on hand and very accommodating. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you
