“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Went to this pub for a drink when we were in Shrewsbury last week. It looked very nice inside and was quite busy, which meant it had very good atmosphere. So will probably come back to this place one day.

“Uninspired 'home cooking'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 via mobile

It's a historic pub that serves good drinks without loud music. Go there for this and not for the food. My major gripe is that the 'home made Steak and Ale Pie' is not a pie at all but a stew with a smallish rectangle of puff pastry in the middle of an oval dish. It also has a surprisingly large quantity of mushrooms which would disconcert mushroom-haters, of whom I know a number. Overall it was tasty, if over peppery (the two of us who had it agreed on this) but nonetheless disappointing, lacking the necessary pastry if a pie. The signature dish (Three Fish) was uninspired, if not poor, but the Cod and Chips and the Fish Pie were good enough for their respective diners. The Apple Pie really was Apple Pie! Spotted Dick was light and spongy (probably suetless).
Portions are generous but I wouldn't return for a pie that isn't.

“Very good beer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

This is a very pretty black and white pub in a little side street. We just dropped in for a beer and were glad we did. The real ales are excellent.
