I've not written a review on trip advisor before but travel extensively all round the world and felt compelled to write a review about The Marshes!
My wife and I, along with our 16 month old daughter, needed a long weekend away from the busy life of London and when friends invited us to go to Ludlow so we jumped at the chance!
The first view you are met with when you arrive at The Marches is the amazing garden. Ruth (the owner) puts a huge amount of time and energy into making the garden as peaceful and serene as possible. It was also perfect for our daughter to explore. However, the real selling point comes when you step up to the front door and glance over your shoulder and see Ludlow with its beautiful castle and surround countryside right before you. (its especially stunning at sunset with a drink on the patio!)
The rooms are spacious and you really feel that great care and attention has gone into the decor and furniture. I have stayed in countless hotels and B&B's where the shower is useless and the bathrooms are mouldy but there is not a hint of that here! Breakfast was fantastic and although there is no cooked option you are certainly not going to be left hungry (I re-discovered my love for toast and marmite much to my wife's annoyance!)
Finally, I really feel I must comment on Ruth, the owner of The Marches. From the welcome to the goodbye, she was absolutely fantastic. So welcoming and warm with great local knowledge and made a fuss over our daughter which any parent loves!
The only thing to watch is the stairs, its not really accessible for disabled or those with very young kids. Our daughter is now a confident walker so it was not so much of a problem for us.
So, all in all, it would have to be a great place to make me write my first comment on trip advisor - and it is!
