Excellent ales and friendly service added to our amazing experience of Ludlow! No heirs and graces; this pub is a proper one with lashings of charisma and character to boot! Nestled in the heart of this beautifully historic market town this was a welcome watering hole which we enjoyed on a few occasions!

If you're looking for an unreconstructed friendly and reasonably priced alternative to the touristy places nearby then this is it. We spent a night in the Church Inn by accident as The Feathers(obvious but pricey) was full but it was nearer the castle, much more the sort of place we wanted and was child and dog friendly. Only caution is the parking and the addictive pies of which there are many. They also do a "paddle" of beers which consists of 3 small 1/3 pint glasses of your choice of the 10 or so real ales. This as my wife pointed out, for such a simple idea made me very happy. Dont miss the market in the square and the castle. The website doe'snt do this place justice.

Booked six rooms for guests at our son's wedding in the castle. The Church Inn is really convenient being only a few minutes walk from the castle. The food is excellent with a huge range of home cooked pies available to eat on site. The staff are really great and went out of their way to make us welcome. The rooms are comfortable, furnished in standard pub manner, very comfortable and slightly strange due to the inevitable steps up and down found in an ancient pub that has been altered many times over the years. Breakfast was the usual full English. Excellent !

Stayed in The Church Inn in early May during the time of the Spring fair.

It's located in a perfect central position right on The Buttercross, but the nearest and best parking is in Galdeford, just a short walk away, which only costs around £2.50 all day. We arrived early, but were told that we couldn't access our room until after 2pm. I know these are the rules everywhere, but most establishments will allow you in earlier if rooms are ready. Nonetheless, the staff are generally friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately, our room (2), was small and cramped and not particularly clean. Overlooking the front of the inn, it was noisy at night, but this is only to be expected. At least the management have installed secondary glazing to keep out most of the din.

The Inn is popular and fairly crowded most of the day and they cook a range of speciality pies (not tried) which seem to be well liked by everybody. Despite being told that Wi-Fi wasn't installed, it's actually freely available throughout the inn. Maybe a sign to this effect would be a good idea?

It's a quirky place, old and full of character, but ideally, the rooms could do with a make over. All in all, would recommend the Church Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter.

We were surprised by the large number if different pies on offer. They were of generous proportion and filled with delicious contents - all superbly presented. They also offer beer in thirds if a pint so that you can sample several different ones.
A busy, friendly atmosphere completes the experience.

We stayed for a night at the Church Inn last weekend and really enjoyed the experience.
We were booked into Room 8 which is one of the Family rooms on the top floor. The room is fairly small, (double bed, bunk beds, bathroom, balcony) but has everything we needed.
The view out of the window is of Ludlow church and it's nice to be able to sit on the balcony and admire the countryside.
The food and drink in the pub is excellent, and the service is first-class.
We found the team very sociable and make a real effort to ensure you have a good time.

The parking in Ludlow is a nightmare - especially as we timed our visit to be on May bank holiday with half the roads blocked off for the fair. We ended up on the Co-Op car park, which is 5 mins walk away. However, there is a loading bay opposite the Hotel so we could drop bags off with no problems.

All in all, well worth a trip.

6 of us stayed for 2 nights in February, and found the food was excellent, the beer was well kept and the staff very helpful, from helping to carry our bags up to the 2nd floor, to sorting out our very complicated bills.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Church Inn stands on one of the most ancient sites in Ludlow, going back at least seven centuries and for much of that time was known as the Cross Keys. As a pub, it serves 10 of the finest Ales it can find, with a lot of them being from local brewers, providing you with a real flavour of local beer. If you would like to try something stronger, then check out the selection of superb Single Malt Whiskys we have on our top shelf. Maybe you would like to get in from the cold? Well then we serve a Mulled Wine or a Delicious Winter Pimms, for only £3.65 per cup. If you just fancy a tea or coffee, we can provide that too. As for lunchtime food, we serve a wide selection of Sandwiches, Baguettes and Salads as well as our Church Inn Breakfast, 12.00pm-2.30pm. However if you would like to have a real taste of the Ludlow life, then try one of our famous Pies from the Ludlow Pie Company - all made from ingredients within a 30 mile radius, and prepared for you in our kitchen; we have Pies that will not only satisfy your hunger, but also feed your amusement with the variety and choice of Pie names! A selection of our Pies are available at Lunch 12.00pm-2.30pm and Dinner 6.30pm-9.00pm (8.30pm Sunday). If you are unfortunate enough to want a Pie but don't have the time to sit down and enjoy our surroundings, do not worry as we can provide you with a take-out one during these times! For our lunch or dinner service you are able to pre-book a table for your group in our JB lounge (upstairs); however if you would just like to pop in and see what we offer, then feel free. We can cater for group bookings - Family Meals, Buffets, Staff Outings - and the JB lounge has the comfort factor with a peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. If you are looking for a place to rest your head for a night or two, are just passing through, have work to attend to or a large reunion to organise, then we can offer you one of our 8 en-suite rooms. We supply one Twin Room, two Family Rooms, Standard and Deluxe Doubles, (all available with single occupancy rates from Monday-Thursday) with Freeview TV, full English Breakfast - and all in a central town location. ... more   less
