“Lovely building and location but little else.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

We have stayed here several times in the past few years and always enjoy its unique position right next to Ludlow castle and the character of the building and its interior. However in other respects it is all rather average and you are just left with the distinct feeling it could all be so much better if a little money was spent on things like carpets, which are distinctly shabby and stained in places and some furniture which may be antique but could do with reupholstering. All the staff seem to be young girls with no obvious Manager and if they did not offer dinner bed and breakfast discounts I suspect the resturant would be empty most of the time. The breakfast was OK but again could have been so much better. My smoked haddock was the smallest portion I have ever seen and my partners full English did not look as if it took advantage of the excellent local ingredients available in Ludlow and when all said and done when you are located in one of the foodie capitals of the UK, is'nt that something you should be able to take for granted. Overall I think it is trading on past glories, we may be back but I think there are far better options if you are prepared to be a few miles outside Ludlow.

My friend and I stayed in the garden annexe of the hotel on 2 separate nights in September and were very disappointed with it. The heating wasnt on in the flower room on arrival and took 2 hours before someone came to fix it, the toilet seat was cracked and the plastic sheet on a very uncomfortable bed in the lower room made for a very unpleasant night. I wrote to the manager listing my grievances but didnt even get a reply. Shame as in a great spot for exploring the beautiful town.

Room Tip: Dont go in the annexe, try the main hotel rooms.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your comments and we are thankful you took the time to give us your feedback. The Hotel is homely, welcoming and attention is given in particular to the comfort of our guests and welcoming them in pleasant surroundings.
We would have welcomed the opportunity to address your complaint at the time, but we were not made aware of it, and having stayed twice, we are a little surprised that none was mentioned at the Hotel, as we would have been delighted to upgrade you at the time. We look forward to welcoming you again at Dinham Hall.

We stayed at this hotel on the 3rd November. The hotel is in a lovely position and looks wonderful from the outside. we could not have been more disappointed with the interior. Apart from a rather bland extention to the building which formed the restaurant it would appear nothing much has been done with the decor at all. It was all very dated and tired looking and in need of complete refurbishment. We had had a long journey and had been looking forward to relaxing in warm comfortable surroundings. this was not to be the case. The radiator in our room was only working at half strength and we asked at reception for an eletric fire. We were given a small blow fire which tended to dry the air and result in a sore throat if left on. However at 6.00pm we realised the radiator had in fact gone off and on checking all the other radiators in the public rooms it was clear the heating had switched off completely (3c outside temp) We complained to one of the two young girls who appeared to be the only staff in the hotel and eventually after being unable to resolve the situation she called the manager from their sister hotel to come and investigate and put matters right. It is true to say that the hotel did not at any time reach an acceptable temperature during our stay. On eth plus side we were not charged for the drinks with our meal. The food was generally good although the breakfast was somewhat lacking in ideas and quality. We shall not be returning.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate your comments and we are thankful you took the time to give us your feedback. The Hotel is a beautiful Georgian property with many original period features, complimented with Antiques and has been decorated with this era in mind, and the mood and ambiance of the House is enjoyed and complimented by most of our discerning Guests. The Hotel is homely, welcoming and attention is given in particular to ensure that the guests are made to feel comfortable with cosy surroundings, log fires, and genuine warm service and attention. We look forward to welcoming you again at Dinham Hall.

A great location & lovely looking hotel from the outside. We stayed in a "supposed" Suite, very dated decor, poor room layout and very cold. On the plus side the bed was comfy and room was quiet.
Hotel was pretty much deserted of staff, having to wait for drinks. Very young staff with what looked like very little training.
Breakfast was average but nothing special. We asked 2 things of the young waiter, neither of which he managed to get right! Staff don't seem to pay much attention to detail.
A big shame as such a lovely building and location is great.

Excellent hotel conveniently located close to Ludlow Castle and only a few minutes walk from the town centre. My wife and I stayed for three nights in a garden cottage room behind the main hotel building. This worked well, providing extra space and a secluded setting. We dined at the hotel on the Saturday evening and experienced very good food and service, although the restaurant was a little quiet. The only reason for not giving a 5 star rating was that the breakfast menu was a bit limited compared to other hotels in this price range, the bacon a bit hard and the sausages a bit bland - somewhat surprising given the abundance of fresh produce available in the Ludlow area! This is a relatively minor observation and we would not hesitate to return. Re the comment in a previous review about a service charge, the only service charge we paid was 10% on the restautant bill, not on the room, and no different to what any reasonable satisfied customer would be willing to pay in a comparable restaurant.

Room Tip: Garden cottage room behind the main hotel building - good sized rooms with extra privacy

A lovely looking hotel, with excellent staff and a decent restaurant. Our suite was very spacious but was cold in the morning as the central jesting wasn't on. They also charge a 'discretionary' service charge which the management keeps for themselves. They should be truly ashamed of themselves. Their staff work hard and were pleasant they deserve the chance to be rewarded. You shouldn't have to ask where the service charge goes. It should go to the staff.

This darling little hotel is top of the range! You won't get another one quite so quirky, with it's excellent staff and cute little furnishings. I honestly don't understand these reviews at all, I've never been to a hotel where the staff have been a perfect balance between proffesional and informal. Everything you could want with a view of the castle thrown in!
