“A Really Great Wedding Anniversary Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2014

My wife and I went to Vito's recently to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived Vito came to welcome us which we thought was unusual as he is always in the kitchen when the restaurant is busy. It turned out that two of his "senior" staff were off together and so he was keeping an eye on what was happening elsewhere. We wondered if everything would be ok as regards service, length of time waiting for each course etc. Our fears were knocked sideways. The service was exemplary as was the food. Considering that the restaurant was full it was a really great evening, I do not know many restaurants that are full on a Thursday night!!

The food. I started with funghi piccante, mushrooms cooked with tomatoes, garlic and a hint of chilli. There must have been nearly half a pound of mushrooms, very tasty. My wife had a dish from the specials board, lobster ravioli parcels in a cream sauce. I tried one and it was delicious.

Main course I had filetto al pepe verde, basically fillet steak with a cream sauce with peppercorns, brandy and just a hint of mustard, absolutely superb, the steak was cooked to perfection. My wife had fegato di vitello alla veneziana, calves liver cooked with onions, parsley, garlic, marsala and vinegar on a bed of light fluffy mashed potato. I tried this as well and my taste buds tingled. With the main course came a dish of various vegetables.

Deserts. I had Zabaione which was light, full of flavour and also full of alcohol. I have never tried this before but if you are feeling stuffed but like your puddings this would do adequately. My wife had tartufo classico nero which is chocolate ice cream with a zabaione centre with crushed hazelnuts and dusted with cocoa powder, again a beautiful dish. All this had been washed down with an Italian chardonay that Vito had suggested. We finished with coffee (excellent) and then joined Vito in the bar for some after dinner drinks.

I do not know what we paid and to be honest it did not matter as I enjoyed every single mouthful
of food and drink and we said that we would not leave it nine months until our next visit.

“Italian gem in Sheffield”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014

Visiting Sheffield for the first time and relied on trip advisor recommendations. We were not disappointed. Does not look much from the outside and small, but do not be put off because the staff and food is excellent! Had bruschetta classica and polpetta e sales a for starters, good portions and great tomato sauce. My daughter loved it so much she stole most if it from me! Main course we had carbanara which was devine and my wife had gamberoni which had a large portion of king prawn peeled. Add some Italian wine and a starter Sardinian beer made it a lovely Tuesday night out. Yes, the place needs lightening up and maybe extending, but for good value Italian food and service this place is worth a visit. When local we will revisit and take some friends along as well next time

“1st time here - not be the last”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

We went here for our son's birthday - 6 of us. We booked online and confirmed the booking by phone yesterday. We read the reviews on here, can't believe we've not been here before!
What a gem!! Authentic decor, excellent friendly and attentive host. The food was devine - nicely served, fresh and hot !!! Not a fault in any way!
The restaurant was quiet with 4 other diners, but it was 6.30pm on a wednesday night! That didn't take anything away from the ambiance - music at a level so you could hear it, but also hear each other talking
prices very reasonable - 6 of us ( 5 starters, 6 main course, 5 deserts and 2 rounds of drinks £135; can't grumble at that!!!

“Excellent Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

We went for my Birthday there was a party of 12 and we all had a brilliant time, the food was tasty and cooked well, plenty of choice for everybody and not expensive, the decor is not brilliant but the staff politeness and banter make up for it
