Now i know it's a pleasant relaxed little restaurant, but if the staff were any more relaxed they would have been asleep!!
I went just for a quick lunch with my partner and left really disappointed, due to the fact i expected the basic's to be right. We ordered bread and dips to start, now the bread tasted nice and fresh, but thought it would have been nice if the staff mentioned what the dips were, neither my partner or myself are a fan of spice and after a little dip in the olive oil, turns out it was spicy, a little warning would be nice and takes two minutes to say. Our mains were Fish & Chips with minted mushy peas, this was nicely cooked but the mushy peas let the dish down, "more mush than pea's" was the comment from my partner.
I had the Duck Breast with red wine lentils, bacon and savoy cabbage. Disappointment doesn't quite cover it. First the presentation just looked shocking, no care taken! Then the waitress said it would be served pink, thats great, but it wasn't, more like a med to well duck was served to me, no sign of pink anywhere. To make it a little worse the cabbage was very gritty, perhaps a little wash before serving would go along way. Overall this was a real bad dish.
The mains pretty much put me off anything else, but my partner did order the meringue, which again just lacked in presentation and care.
The service was so relaxed, it was almost absent, no check back, no extra drinks offered and we had to interrupt the staff meal (it was just after 3pm) to ask for our bill, on paying 2 waitresses decided to have a little chat as our card was being processed!! No offence but i don't want to hear your gossip.
All in all i wont return, the little touches that could make this place great are further away than they could ever be, no one seems to care! I would have rated as terrible but the fish and chips saved you! But thats just my opinion.
