“Night to sheffield with the girlfriend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

My girlfriend and i stayed in the mercure for one night as a valentines gift and to just get away for the weekend... the hotel its self is very impressive from the outside and continues to impress on the inside... the hotel was spotless and very smart looking, we had champagne and chocolates in our room which was a very nice touch! we eat in the restaurant which was also very nice, and the breakfast was a PROPER full english,, butchers sausage, thick bacon and black pudding with loads of other things like cerial, yogart, fruit ect ect if full english is not your thing!
the spa was really good, aswell as the steam room and sauna they have an ice iglo and an aromatherapy grotto, was very relaxed after this my girlfriend loved it!!
it is in a fantastic location city center, and right next door to a casino that is open late and very fun inside, we had never been to a casino and it was really impressive inside and we even won a few quid which basicly paid for our whole night out! 10/10 would 100% come and stay again!!

Room Tip: our room was facing the winter gardens but only had a view of the roof, if you can get a room on the...

We stayed here for two nights and were visiting family friends in the area. As we are le-club member and thus we initially choose Mercure St Paul’s. I have to say that from check in to check out the staff are friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. Our special thanks to Sandeep, who had been true brand ambassador. We were in fact impressed with his level of care not only towards us but also other guest and can compare the standards of service to that of Joe’s (Head Concierge – Sofitel London St James). Beds are quite large and comfortable, though a mattress topper would have enhanced the experience. We get a good night's sleep. Breakfast was lovely with a large selection of different foods. Highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.

Room Tip: "Ask for Sandeep"

Arrived at the hotel Friday tea time for my friends hen weekend, there was 14 of us,we got checked in promptly and haded for the rooms which were lovely and clean.
Our evening meal was lovely and the staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
The manager was very helpful and made sure our stay was perfect
I would recommend this hotel, it is also in a prime location right in the centre of town well within walking distance to everything.

I stayed at this hotel as a part of a business conference and was impressed by the excellent service culture. The location and the property are both great and proximity to the train station helps. However what sets this place apart is the people managing the reception and bell desk as they are very helpful and considerate. I shall definitely return with family for a vacation.

Took my Mum as a treat for afternoon tea following two good experiences last year.
The staff were very pleasant and attentive and the surroundings very nice, although it could have been a bit warmer, but it was a very cold day.
We ordered the champagne afternoon tea and were served finger sandwiches (no crusts), smoked salmon, ham and mustard and cheese and pickle which were nice and fresh. There were also 2 scones and clotted cream a carrot cakes and a chocolate éclair each. Plenty to eat. The champagne was OK, not sure what brand they use as it came poured, not the best I've ever had, but by no means the worst. The scones were a disappointment whilst warm they were doughy and slightly hard on the outside as if they had been microwaved, lovely genuine clotted cream though and a choice of mini jam pots. The carrot cake was nice except for being a bit cold and the chocolate éclair was pretty bland and also extremely cold (just out of the freezer?). The pot of tea was nice.
Overall not the experience I was hoping for. My first visit for afternoon tea last July with a group of friends really was outstanding and my second, later in the year with another group was also good, however this one didn't leave me thinking I must go back again soon. I hope this was just an off day (they were quite busy) and they can bring their standards back up to where they were, as it is nice to have somewhere like this locally for a girly treat.
Probably a 3 and a half rating but made it a 4 for the good service, which is always a bonus.
