“Absolutely Brilliant Experience!! The best hotel in Yorkshire!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here in the 29th of January 2013, this is the third time I've stayed at this hotel and I have to say its an all round 5/5.
Look out for Philp who works on the front door! He's quite a character and never fails to make you laugh!

I havnt stopped in the hotel but me and my sister had a spa day booked, the hotel was very nice inside though and looked like a nice place to stay. The spa was a lovely retreat in the centre of Sheffield, we booked a special offer which was brilliant value, the facilities were very clean, a nice warm swimming pool, and also a few rooms such as a sauna, steamroom and a couple of other rooms which were a bonus. The treatments were lovely, the relaxation area was nice and the free drinks were a treat. Going back again already.

We had friends staying with us from London so booked them in this hotel as we had found it priced fairly similar to other hotels in Sheffield. My friends could not praise the staff enough and said they were all very helpful and that the room was modern with nice decor. Thankyou to all the staff for making my friends welcome and when they come back they will def be staying there.

I have stayed here a few times now and I ave to say I always look forward to staying here. Even though I live just outside of Sheffield after having a night out in Sheffield I have stopped over to make the most of my time with managers and people that I suggest the hotel too. Rooms are large very moden in style, great facilities and I can recommend using the spa facilities.
Food and bar isn't cheap but you are in a top class hotel so what you would expect.
Great place, central for business and meetings well worth a visit

We stayed at this city centre hotel for 2 nights, but it didn't live up to it's 4 star rating unfortunately. The excellent doorman was a multi-tasker and happily sorted out some minor problems in the room! Other problems were; no net curtains on the floor to ceiling windows, so unless you want to give the office workers at the Town Hall opposite a full view whilst changing, the curtains had to be redrawn in the morning to change! The bed was firm and fairly comfortable. The bedding needs attention - a flimsy, thin duvet was all that was offered on the bed, together with two thinnish pillows, both of which were inadequate. I had to resort to putting my coat on the bed to warm up during the first night, before asking for a blanket and extra pillows for the following night! What about the heating system though, I hear you ask - well, if you turned that up a brightish green lamp came on that flooded the room, very bright against the darkness. Breakfasts, the only meal that we had at the hotel, were adequate, coffee was awful (like most hotels), and the staff seems disorganised. Plus, why are the guests always grouped together? The few other guests were placed at tables adjoining, while the rest of the restaurant was left empty. I know it's for ease of serving the tables by the staff, but it seems the comfort of the guests is secondary to efficiency. All in all, a satisfactory choice (no parking though) and convenient, but lacking in any atmosphere and unmemorable for that.

Room Tip: We had the superior king size, with a view over the Town Hall, on the 5th floor.

I was pleasantly surprised about the Mercure. I didn't expect much but actually this is a very nice city center hotel conveniently located directly by the University and train station. Very friendly staff not just at the reception but also at the gym, bar and restaurant. My room was clean, modern and relatively specious in comparison to other UK hotels. The gym isn't really just a hotel gym but a full size health club with all you can ask for. The ventilation was excellent and I had a very enjoyable work out. Added bonus, there is also a steam bath, a sauna and a swimming pool that is large enough to do some laps. Negative was only that wifi is not complimentary for guests. If you are looking for a conveniently located hotel in Sheffield, look no further…

Room Tip: Make sure you got a 1 pound coin when you go to the gym. You need it for the locker.

Was there for 5 days for a business trip and all I can say the hotel is very clean and they have a very good hot breakfast. Their staff was superb and very helpful on anything I needed. There are also restaurants that are very close and a Sainsbury supermarket chain just 2-3 minutes walk, so you won't be missing anything
