“A wonderful return visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

We stayed at this hotel a few times a couple of years ago. It was a wonderful 3 star hotel then but is now a well deserved 4 star. There have been a few new develpoments in the grounds which make this a wonderful wedding or party setting. Even in November the grounds are gorgeous with a mill pond, ducks and peacocks.
On arrival in your room there is a complimentary small decanter of port. And the rooms are so comfortable and relaxing. Everything you needs including a few toiletries.
There is a bar area and fabulous lounge with comfy chairs and sofas and a roaring fire. The food is better than ever - check out the menu.
There are a few business people who stay here but to get the most out of this characterful hotel go for a romantic break. You will get the best deal booking direct with the hotel - just give them a ring. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
I love this place.

Room Tip: Room 42 is in the newer annex with a great view over the pond and wooden 'jetty'. Room 19 i...

This hotel is on the outskirts of Sheffield in a lovely rural location.
The hotel has the feeling like you are going home. Interior design pleasing and homely. Beautiful decor , throughout.
Lovely real fires going in all the reception rooms.
All the staff had a smile on their faces, rare these days ! Couldn't do enough to help make your stay comfortable.
Food presentation and taste was extremely good. Staff aware of gluten free diets , which is always a plus for me !
Fantastic deals to be had and not to be missed ! We had the romantic break.
Lots of lovely touches in hotel. In the bedroom we had a small decanter of port and also a bottle of sparkling wine on ice awaiting us on arrival.
The lady who owns the hotel also is very much on hand every day of the week and was very welcoming and helpful
Basically , I can't fault this hotel and am going back in December for a Christmas party.
The only negative was there was a wedding being held there and the music at night was extremely loud and only stopped at midnight and we had to have an early start the next day. But apparently this DJ wasn't the resident one and the hotel did complain to him about the level of noise.
But all in all, stay here if you need to be in the Sheffield area. You won't be disappointed, especially if you can get one of their fantastic deals ! Can't wait to go back

With friends visiting us from Australia we wanted somewhere special to take them and, having enjoyed many happy family occasions and New Years Eve celebrations we chose Whitley Hall once again.
We were not disappointed and our friends loved their visit, great meal extremely well presented and served by friendly staff, it was just a shame that we were unable to have our usual pre dinner drinks and coffee their lovely lounge due to a wedding party dominating this and the bar area.
Will we return? Absolutely and can highly recommend it for that special event.

We stayed on a short break which was an offer, absolutely beautiful setting, no complaints about service or meals
The hotel is in the country but quite close to Sheffield, a little awkward to find but once there we had no complaints
The room was a corner room overlooking the lake which made for a really nice view
Drinks a little pricey but this is a hotel after all.
All in all enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others

We were there for a wedding , and it would be hard to find a more beautiful place to get Married . The wedding and reception were very well organised . The only negatives were that the room was on the small side and that there was a problem with the plumbing which meant we had no hot water for 24 hours .

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your review of the hotel. I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time spent with us when you visited for such a wonderful occasion. All comments received are circulated to the staff concerned and I am sure that they will be pleased to hear that you had such an enjoyable time with us.
With regards to the room you stayed in, as Whitley Hall is not a purpose built hotel (and this is why we love it) all our rooms are individual in both size and character but we believe that they far surpass any ‘standard’ hotel room that you would normally find. Our regular guests even insist in trying out most rooms until they find their personal favourite!
It was unfortunate that at the time you visited we were experiencing a problem with one of the boilers at the hotel. Our staff here are very adaptable and can turn their hand to rectifying most situations that arise swiftly. As much as we hate to admit defeat even this issue was beyond us and we had to call in the experts to deal with it.

I do hope that this does deter you from a return visit should you be in the area again, and we promise that we will do our best to let you try out a different rooms until we find your favourite!

Kindest Regards
