“Out Damn Parking Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Crucible is a wonderful venue and Macbeth was fab and very good value for money - but the cost of parking in NCP was an extortionate £15

“Well done Daniel Evans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Yesterday I saw a great production of My Fair Lady . I came up from Cornwall to see it on my locally based friend's recommnedation .It had some great individual performances , beautiful clothes and stylish scenery . Mr Doolittle was splendid casting as was local boy Dominic West . Elisa Doolittle was stylish and convincingly vulnerable .The Ascot scene was memorable. Well done to all involved .I hope it will transfer to London and or go on tour so more people can see it as it finishes next week ?

“Superb venue - if only all theatres were like this.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Went to see My Fair Lady (Jan 2013). First visit to this theatre, which is three quarters "in the round". This gives everyone in the theatre a good view of the happenings on stage. The seating is fairly steeply raked so that again the view is not interrupted and also the seats are not in line so you are looking between the heads on the row below, again giving a clear viewing line to the stage. Sound system perfect, not deafening but every word clearly heard.

The ambient temperature in the theatre is exactly right, there are ample signs within the theatre for which door you use to reach your seats (colour coded and printed on the tickets too). Excellent bar, plenty of staff on when we visited, ices available in the interval.

“Great local theatre in the round”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

I am from Sheffield so I hope I am not too biased here!!

I like the Crucible because its not too big and wherever you sit you get a good view. Some theatres, including in London have small steps inbetween the rows so often you get an excellent view of the person's head in front of you. At the crucible, seating's just a little higher so you get a better view of the performance.

True, if you are sat right at the sides of the theatre, you may feel as though you are looking at things a little from behind but generally in the productions I have seen the cast include the audience well.

Also because its not a huge theatre, as others have said, you get to feel part of the production and experience a closeness you wouldn't get at a larger style theatre.

My most recent visit was to see My Fair Lady with local(ish) talent, Dominic West. It was fabulous. I attended the same performance as Graham Norton and I must say, I was a little disappointed he wasn't promoting the pluses of this venue as much as he could. He appeared more to be pushing for the show to go to London, rather than promoting local theatre.

Anyway, enough said! If you're not from Sheffield, you need to look into travel and parking arrangements before you come. Its not great for parking and certainly not many cheap options but good local transport in Trams nd Trains.
