“lovely country pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

15 of us went her to celebrate a family occassion. We booked in advance and recommend you do as it was very busy. The majority of our group had cavery sunday lunch (small £6.25/ large 8.25) thought was excellent value for money. Plenty of meat, choice of 5 veg and mash and roast potatoes. I could have been a bit hotter for me but thats usually the way for a cavery i find. We were served at table due to party size but genrally pay at bar i think. A few in our party ate of the "normal menu" and i have to say the portions were huge. Great value for money pub, with superb views over the countryside, play area and bouncy castle outside for the kids too.

“waited over an hour”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013 via mobile

we visited this pub/resturant last night for tea.we have been a few times and always enjoyed it. However last night was a disaster. At 6.30pm i ordered our food.Nacho starters to share and two mains from the menu.At 7.30 we had to ask where our starter was.It arrived the tortilla chips were burnt.Buy the time iur mains arrived wed gone past been hungry.my wife complained and was told sorry but we are busy.Rubbish people came in 20mjns after us and got served.we were offered a free pudding but refused.A discount off the meal should have been offered. The place abd views are fantastic but its like a cattle market. They make shed loads of money from the food and good kuck to them but service is poor.We wont be returning

“Old Horns Inn? ( RESTAURANT )”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Lovely country hamlet with spectacular views and very interesting history on the information boards outside the pub. That's a good start then.

We did notice that all the tables seemed to be reserved? and we were told there was one we could use for an hour! Now we got the distinct feeling of being rushed. The pub was quiet but soon filled up. We found this strange for a Monday, and by 1pm it was positively heaving. I would imagine the 2 for a fiver may have something to do with that. This place is geared up for one thing only.....FOOD. It's not a place to go and just drink. Lets face it though. Extensive menu, cheap deals and themed evenings make it happen. The management have done the research for success.

Having said all that though, the food was nice and portions were big.

“It's a restaurant, not a pub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

You can tell it's a restaurant, not a pub, as all the tables are "reserved" even though many were unoccupied, but magically become available if you decide you want to eat. There are a very few stools dotted about to sit on if you are not eating, but are placed where you will be in the way of the doors to the toilet or beer garden. Not much of an atmosphere and everything feels very hurried.

That said, the menu of typical pub fare is well cooked, and the portions are generous. They also have a couple of well kept real ales on, including Bradfield Brewery Farmers Blonde when I last visited.

Apparently the owners have now taken over the nearby Plough, which was cheaper, had more good beer on offer and lovely home made food. Hope that doesn't become a clone of this place.
