LA MAMA is not in a foodie's geographic heaven, sitting as it does in the middle of Abbeydale Road. It is, however, nirvana for tapas fans. Its food is packed with flavour and plentiful. It feels like a little secret, and it is all the better for that.
It was its location that gave rise to my visit, convenient as it was for an impromptu weekday evening meal. Two of us dined on six dishes of tapas and a bottle of red wine, served by a wonderfully friendly and smiley waitress who was most welcoming and most endearing.
The six tapas dishes and the bottle of red totalled just a nod under £50 which is exceptionally good value when one considers the wine alone comprised almost a third of the bill.
It was good fortune to have chanced upon La Mama as it is now my go-to tapas restaurant in the city. Its food is authentic and rich on flavours whilst the meal itself was pleasingly light on the pocket.
