“Our 3rd stay there and it gets better. Couldn't complain about anything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2010

We had stayed at Mosborough Hall on two occasions previously and loved the ethos. Our mum had had a 90th birthday party there in 2009.On this, the third occasion, however, we had lost my mum and decided to hold the wake there. We also stayed there for several days. The staff were amazing; so helpful and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb both in the restaurant and the bar snacks. The food provided for my mum's wake was plentiful and of a high quality. My husband and I love staying there. The history of the building makes it very special. The rooms are so quiet and comfortable. Although we have no reason to visit that area again, we have decided to call in and spend some time at Mosborough Hall when in need of a break.

A really comfortable hotel with excellent accomodation and service. Certainly this will be on our list for a return visit soon. The room was well furnished and comfortable, bright and airy, spotlessly clean and a pleasure to stay in. Restaurent food was excellent and the service absolutely first class. If there is to be a niggle it is that the Bass was a little too cold and the Speckled Hen slightly too warm but these were minor sacrifices during a pleasurable stay.

We booked four rooms, a four poster suite and three standard doubles on Saturday night 27/02/10, at £125 and £54 each respectively. Not bad for B&B and reassuring to see the wonderful photos of the rooms on the web site. Having given my credit card details to secure the booking I then had a call back from the hotel informing me that there was no room in the restaurant , a second call min's later to tell me that there was a table but that the four poster suite 'had gone' .To add insult to injury I was informed that I could have a standard room in the 'BASEMENT'. Because we booked on the day, all eleven of us were en-route to the hotel we reluctantly accepted the 'basement' offer.

We arrived at the hotel at about 7.30pm to find the place packed out with a wedding, NO mention of this just two hours earlier when we booked.

The rooms are NOT as depicted in the vast majority of the brochure. We checked into a drab and featureless new 'wing' of no merit. Poor quality fittings, cheap TV's and basic bathrooms. Noise from other rooms can clearly be heard and flushing the loo provided a symphony of rattles and bangs. No doubt the feature rooms do exist but we never saw one, especially the four poster suite I booked!

The food in the restaurant was 'pub grub' at best ,we ordered two 'rare' steaks (£19.95 each) these were tough and inedible, however the bar was open so we made the best of it (bar bill £195!).The old part of the building is great, the bar especially. Some of the staff are excellent, Wendy the housekeeper couldnt do enough for us,setting up the cots etc ( £10 EACH ! usually free everywhere else )

BREAKFAST however proved the high point of the stay for all the wrong reasons. The breakfast bar was very poor for a hotel of this size a cereal bowl of yoghurt, another of fruit salad etc simply is not enough. We had to ask for everything to be supplied, no bowls ( red hot ones duly arrived), no glasses (ditto) , no bread for the toaster, no juice, no butter , the list goes on. Ten of us sat around one round table , very nice but not one dirty plate , cutlery or bowl was removed from our table whilst we were sat for nearly an hour. Eventually I moved a load onto the next table and a couple of chairs. It was still there when we left. The cooked breakfast was ok, doubts as to the advertised provenance of the meat and miniscule black pudding, still in its coating, stick in my mind. However the lady looking after us did a fabulous job of bringing everything, unlike the poor table next door where the waiter seemed to be in a competition to eat more than the guests, chewing his food whilst serving theirs.Interestingly when I asked for a fresh pot of tea the chewing waiter delivered a bashed up tin pot with the words ' HOSPITAL' clearly engraved on the side.

This place needs the 'Hotel Inspector' urgently.

At CHECKOUT the bill came to £465.15, I asked for the steaks to be removed from the bill, the F&B 'manager' then appeared and loudly proclaimed no such refund would be done. He said that when he had enquired the previous evening 'if everything was ok', I had said it was. I explained that I did not want a scene and when he cleared the table I had told him that all was not well. We then had a very embarrassing argument. He accepted that the meals were 75% untouched and had indeed gone back, but no refund would be given. This very tall gentleman then enquired as to wether he had our credit card details, the receptionist said yes and he said we will just charge your card anyway. Eventually and with much disgust he said that he would credit one steak! This man has no idea about customer service at any level and is clearly in the wrong job ( night club bouncer springs to mind ) His attitude alone drove me to recount my experiences on trip advisor.

Stayed here for our Company Christmas Party and really enjoyed our stay. The room was cosy, clean and very comfortable. The hotel bar has a wide selection of drinks and overlooks the grounds. Beautiful view from room and staff very happy to help when i left something in my room on departure.

The breakfast was very nice, wide variety of fruits, cereals and yoghurts, and the fry up was lovely. Would definately stay here again

Stayed nuerous times throughout 2009 with work & staff were very froendly and helpful. Stayed in same room most of the time but 1 time we stayed in a different room we were on the ground floor and the rooms are not as modern; stay in room 215. Little walk from reception but very good size and lovely bathroom.

We stayed at this hotel in august 2009 and can only say that the service provided by the staff here is absolutely disgusting. They were rude, unprofessional and found everything a huge task! The hotel is beautiful and the food is good but the service is awful. Would not go back if it was the last place on earth.

Even though we explicitly asked for a quiet room when booking, we were put up in a room next to the central engine of the ventilation, which was constantly producing a loud noise. We only got another room after we announced that we would leave if not. The other room was better but also loud, due to water pipes next door which always gave a hooting sound whenever someone used their taps.
Independent from that the front desk manager was rather unfriendly, almost aggressive.

The cleaning staff took a towel, which we didn't get back; no apology or recompense was offered.

Transport to the arena (part of a package) was booked by 14 people, but the taxi they called could only transport 10. The front desk manager was very unfriendly to her guests even though it was her fault.
