“Excellent Hotel, Nice People, Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2009

Would recommend the Cutlers for anyone looking for affordable and clean accomodation in Shefield. The staff were friendly and more than happy to help ( I can be a demanding hotel guest! ) the rooms were clean with a plasma tv, ipod dock, and qulaity teas & Coffees. Stayed there with friends as part of a weekend get together and the location was superb, so central, the good bars and clubs were minutes walk away. Ate there on the friday night and the food was of good quality and very reasonable, breakfast was also excellent with genourous portions and with several options. The manager was more than happy to recommend the best places to eat and drink, and was on hand to generally help. Great place to stay, would gladly book again.

The Cutlers Hotel is well located economy hotel in the centre of Sheffield. One can't really fault its location if you need to be in the centre of the city. The place is in transition, rooms have had a makeover, they are clean and fresh updating a 60's building wedged in a back street.
I liked the staff, they were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. Liked the free wireless internet/ TV etc.
On the downside.....
1. Shower pressure poor, come on owners this is an easy fix.
2. No Iron in the room. (Easy fix)
3. Difficult to get fresh air in the rooms as the windows are sealed... except if you get a coathanger from the wardrobe, stand on the window sill and pull down the top opening windows. (Only if you are are 6ft +) No AIRCON
4. Towels supplied are too small and mine were threadbare.... (EASY EASY FIX!!!!!)
5. Soap and shampoo are meagre, my soap was the size of a coin.
5. No coffee with caffeine available in the room... or from reception.....(YAWN)
6. Annoying' We'll charge you 50 pounds if you smoke in the room' notice.
7. Dated exterior, says Bistro... no Bistro in this Hotel, though there is a souless room doubling as a bar.
8. Common areas have threadbare carpets.

It will be ok when they have finished.... I'm sure.

We have stayed at the Cutlers Hotel a few times now and have seen its transformation whilst having its refurbishment. The hotel rooms are great, very spacious, hugh beds, large flat screen TV & DVD player & are always very clean. (They also offer a free DVD library)

Although the hotel looks much more modern, the staff have always remained very friendly & helpful. If you are lucky enough to meet John-Paul on your travels then im sure he will endevour to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, its right in the hub of the city centre and its never let us down.

Less than 10 mins walk from Sheffield train station and 5 mins from the restaurants around Millenium Square.

Bedrooms are fairly comfortable although some of them are quite small and others are poorly laid out. One unexpected bonus is that the large flatscreen TV has a built-in DVD player and you can borrow DVDs from reception for free.

No business centre but Internet access is free (although may have to borrow a cable as the wireless signal is poor).

Would not recommend the hotel restaurant which lacks atmosphere and the one member of staff can get overrun at peak times. Wagamamas, Cafe Rouge and Piccolinos all within easy walking distance and are good value.

Staff were generally friendly.

Overall, would recommend it for business traveller as it offers a consistently satisfactory service - but try somwhere else if you are trying to impress a loved one.

This hotel is well located in the centre of town, but with that come problems. The main one is noise - incessant, and particularly intrusive at night.

Staff were polite but not particularly focused, and the common parts need a facelift. The room I stayed in was small, had a single bed made up with sheets that left me feeling very itchy, had a weirdly uncooperative TV, and hadn't been properly cleaned. The shower room was minute, and the shower could only produce a dribble of tepid water. Breakfast was the one saving grace.

My son and I stayed at Cutlers on the 20th for 1 night in a twin room that cost 125.00 including breakfast. The stay didnt start too well, the lady on the desk did not have English as her first language so we both struggled a bit and she did not seem to know much of the info I requested.

The room was very clean warm and well furnished just a shame about the old metal windows that didnt shut properly.

Be warned though the lift makes a terrible noise constantly so unless you are a heavy sleeper AVOID!

As a result wasnt able to sleep later than 7.30 due to people using the lift.

The breakfast was fine but not high quality just what you would expect at TJ Hughes round the corner.

I stayed here in a single room for just one night and was really impressed by how helpful and friendly all the staff were. Location was very central, right next to theatres and shops. The room and bathroom were very clean, although admittedly quite small, but the English breakfast was cooked to order so everything was nice and fresh and hot.

Overall, I felt that while other hotels I've stayed in have been comparable in terms of facilities and so on, the staff here really stood out and made me think I would be happy to return any time I was in Sheffield again.
