We went here for a meal, and although the food was OK, it was the service which truly let it down. They failed to cater for special dietary requirements, took a significant amount of time to cook the meal and failed to suitably attend the table.

Although the waiting staff were polite, there was little or no enthusiasm for the food.

However, if one is not bothered by these things, it's entirely plausible that an acceptable meal could be eaten here. Although the food was perfectly edible, it lacked the finesse that the surroundings and price connoted. In the roast meal that I ate, the main flavour was salt. It was not unpleasant, simply unimaginative.

The drinks however are a different story, this establishment serves the esteemed 'Thornbridge Brewery' beers - which are simply fantastic. However, if one wants good beer, one would be better finding one of Thornbridge's pubs. Not only will the price be more reasonable, but there would most likely be a wider variety of drinks of offer.

With all things taken into consideration, I would not recommend the Beauchief Hotel.

Great little boutique style hotel, just south of Sheffield. Very tastefully decorated with good food menu in both dining room and bar. The staff were excellent and really helpful. My colleague and I arrived just after 9 pm and althoug the bar usually stopped serving food at this time, Hayley on reception spoke to the chef who agreed to us ordering food after we had checked in and had time to freshen up. The rooms were stylish and comfortable and I appreciated the tea, freshly ground coffee and home made biscuits left in the room. Breakfast was amazing. The only minus was the poor fitting windows, as the hotel is situated at a road junction and the noise from passing vehicles early in the morning was a bit annoying. That said it would not prevent me from stopping here again. Great value and a little gem of a place.

Celebrated a friend's birthday here in October. A pleasant setting and generally satisfied if not overly impressed by the food, apart from feeling it was a bit overpriced on the "innovative" menu, particularly since the portions were quite small. We were also surprised to find that our "mixed vegetables" consisted of peas with a few green beans. The service at the table was good, pleasant and efficient.

In contrast! the most disappointing aspect of the evening was the poor and indifferent service before we went to the table. At this type of restaurant you don't expect to have to search for someone to take your coats or drink orders when you arrive, or wait over half an hour from receiving menus for someone to take your food orders.

All in all ok but not great and not worth a return.

Went here for my husbands 40th birthday and it was amazing. The food was fantastic. Liked that fact that there are two versions of the menu, innovative and classic. Classic being £5 for starter, £10 for main and £5 for dessert. Will definitely be going back before Christmas.

Ate here for the first time last night and was underwhelmed. It was very nice to be brought an amuse bouche and I appreciated the second one (brought in error!)
The starter of vegetable terrine was tasty, but the main course of leek, onion and cheddar Mille feuille was very bland. Of the 3 side dishes, one was unavailable, leaving a choice of chips or mixed veg. The desserts were good as were the petit fours served with coffee.
More attention to detail from the waiting staff would have improved the experience. 4 or 5 small issues like sparkling wine opened and no glasses on the table to pour it into and being given peppermint tea rather than Earl Grey.
Overall, service ok, food ok, but I'm not sure it's worth going back.

Stayed a while back for business, had driven for 6 hours so exhausted. Had a 7am appt the next day so said would muss breakfast and the lady (owner?) said to leave a nite at my door to say what cereal I would like and gave me a flask if milk to use for tea etc in the meantime. Had a tasty dinner and glass if wine - all the staff very friendly and chatty - and crashed out after a lively bath. The next morning a note was under my door explaining that a selection if cereals was on the other side with fresh milk.
Was very touched that she had done that, especially as I had forgotten myself!
It makes such a difference to feel cared for, especially as a woman working away from home most of the week.
This place IS lovely, the rooms are quirky and mine was like a boutique hotel, even the biscuits were nicer and better presented than usual, but it was definitely the people and their service ( even the cleaner was lovely in the early morning) that sets this hotel apart.
