Tiny and basic but an absolute gem! Only four formica tables and more a cafe than restraunt (by UK standards) but clean, pleasant and delightfully authentic southern Indian food.
This is not the usual rich, ghee sodden Pakistani/north Indian stodge served in most restaurants, this is good, honest southern Indian fare. We had freshly prepared dosas, pooris, uttupam and kotthu, washed down with lassi and rediscovered tastes which we have not experienced since bumming around Kerala and Karnataka in the late 80s (with prices to match - we were satisfyingly filled for less than £10 per head!) As expected, dishes are mostly vegetarian but with some mutton, chicken and fish options plus two set meal 'specials' advertised on a blackboard.
Book or go early - the place fills up very quickly. We were the first customers at the five pm opening but within minutes all seats were taken and people were being turned away.
Dont expect the Ritz - there is no car park, food is served on thalis (not plates) and there is no bar, but for lovers of good southern Indian food (or those who just likes to try something a little different) the East and West is well worth a visit.
