“Authentic southern Indian food in Yorkshire!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

Tiny and basic but an absolute gem! Only four formica tables and more a cafe than restraunt (by UK standards) but clean, pleasant and delightfully authentic southern Indian food.
This is not the usual rich, ghee sodden Pakistani/north Indian stodge served in most restaurants, this is good, honest southern Indian fare. We had freshly prepared dosas, pooris, uttupam and kotthu, washed down with lassi and rediscovered tastes which we have not experienced since bumming around Kerala and Karnataka in the late 80s (with prices to match - we were satisfyingly filled for less than £10 per head!) As expected, dishes are mostly vegetarian but with some mutton, chicken and fish options plus two set meal 'specials' advertised on a blackboard.

Book or go early - the place fills up very quickly. We were the first customers at the five pm opening but within minutes all seats were taken and people were being turned away.
Dont expect the Ritz - there is no car park, food is served on thalis (not plates) and there is no bar, but for lovers of good southern Indian food (or those who just likes to try something a little different) the East and West is well worth a visit.

We found food was authentic and very tradional. Onam Thali, Mutton Kothu and Masala dosa. We all found food tast was mouthwatering and feel that you have been to Kerala or Sri Lanka.

“Vegi Food OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We had visited this place six months ago, and found food excellent, so was looking for opportunity to visit again. Initially it used to be open for Lunch time, but later we realised that it is open on lunch time at weekend only. It is a small compact restaurant. Capacity of about 24-26 people. If you are planning to visit weekend evening, make sure you book your table. We ordered Dosa, Idaly and Veg Kottu. Dosa was brilliant, Idaly smelled of parboiled rice. It was not as soft as should be. Chatany was good but Sambhar was average. Rasam was disappointing. Kottu was average. As a whole meal was satisfying but not as brilliant as it was on previous occasion. For Vegi, there is a good choice, but be warn, that same girdle is used for making Vegi dosa as non veg dosa or Kottu.

“Interesting foods served fast in a cafe style”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This was one of the first Indian restaurants in Sheffield, serving dosa and other delights to a public more used to Pakistani curries... Served as fast as is possible for food cooked fresh, with a selection of lassi/teas to wash it down with. Take away available if you don't get in fast enough to bag a table!
