“Foxholes Farm Wedding reception”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Disappointing, cold and highly stressful would sum up our experience of Foxholes Farm as a wedding reception venue for several reasons, some of which are listed below
The marquee - photos on website in no way represent the marquee that is actually used; We were promised a new marquee- the one we actually had was in excess of 10years old and not exactly the “beautiful marquee” advertised nor does it open onto a beautiful grass area as shown in photos.
The heating was totally inadequate. There was one small heater, 2 were promised but even that would have been insufficient in March. Guests were extremely cold and uncomfortable making for a miserable time particularly when sitting still during the meal
The venue is advertised as “entirely yours” for the weekend –in fact we shared it with 2 couples looking round on Saturday and more couples on the actual morning of the wedding. Rachel Hague the owner/manager had booked these viewings and was meeting with these couples and showing them around.
There is not sufficient review space to add issues relating to costs, accommodation, catering, being asked to leave before time, lack of any mobile network etc etc!!
Foxholes Farm really is in a beautiful location but the “bespoke”
Wedding package was anything but bespoke.-the words amateur and unprofessional spring to mind.
We fully anticipate that Rachel Hague will challenge and deny all these facts.

We were very disappointed with our apartment. It was generally rather grotty. The carpet was filthy and covered in stains. The sofa's were very old and uncomfortable and had sagged greatly after so much use. They were also rather stained. Our double bed was ok but the kids complained about theirs. You could feel the springs through one of them. The kitchen was fairly well equipped but I had to ask the cleaner for a new frying pan as the one supplied looked as if something had been cremated in it and put back in the cupboard.

I think more could be done to provide guests with some information about what to do in the surrounding area. I'm from Sheffield so know the area very well but considering there is no internet (or there was but it didn't work and to be fair, it wasn't advertised), and there's no mobile network unless you walk half way up a hill then it would be very helpful to let people know what can be found locally and further afield. And trust me, there's lot's to do. It's a great location. It's a beautiful building with a fantastic view but a missed chance when it comes to comfort and cleanliness.

We stayes in Foxholes Farm for 10 nights. It's a very beautiful old place, for some real peace and quiet. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but it's only een 30 minutes drive to Sheffield city centre. We only had cellphone reception in one of the bedrooms.
The cottage has just enough kitchen utensils etc. if you want to make your own dinner. There's an Inn nearby with good food if you don't want to cook.

On the downside:
The beds were truly terrible and should have been replaced years ago. The beds creaked and the mattresses were lumpy. Even turning the (very heavy) mattresses did not help.
Also we had to make a phonecall because the required cot and high chair were not in the cottage. When only the high chair was delivered when we were out for dinner, we had to make another phonecall to have the cot delivered. Rachel and Martin took care of it, but we would have had appreciated it if they were there earlier, especially with a tired 9 month old baby.

We came to Sheffield for a 4 day stay and we are so happy we found Foxholes. With a newborn baby (7 weeks) a 6 year old and a 4 year old, hotels are a nightmare. Foxholes had everything we wanted at an amazing cost. Cottage 6 has a twin bedroom for the girls, a double for us that had enogh space for the travel cot and a kitchen living area that meant when the kids were in bed we had some space to ourselves (you won't get that in a hotel). The local area is fantastic and so picturesque, There is a park for the kids and stunning walks and is only a short distance to Hillsborogh shops and the city centre. The local pubs are really nice and the pub by Bradfield Church was amazing value with huge portions. The cottage has a fully equiped kitchen and we cooked in 2 nights and watched a DVD. We will definetly be back and are already looking for dates in Summer to come.

Excellent - lovely setting close to a great city. The building is beautiful and the accommodation was comfortable and fuss-free.
Only slight whinge would be the storage heaters - we were staying in the winter and it was difficult to achieve a satisfactory temperature later in the evening.
