Brilliant, really impressed with all facilities and the food was AMAZING!! Really friendly staff and well kept beer. Very clean and one of the few places with decent table service. Have reccomended to colleagues at work who travel regularly and would reccomend highly to anyone!! Taking my mum there for her birthday in a couple of weeks!

We stopped for one night unfortunately we were running late so didn't eat before we went out but the food coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were lovely and we had our own balcony over looking the hills. Breakfast was all locally sourced and was scrumptious. We would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. We will Definately be returning there for food!!!

My wife and I had our wedding reception at The Cross Scythes. Stuart and his team provided a versatility of options to suit our individual requirements which extended to both the catering and the practical arrangements of the day itself. The service was unobtrusive and unfussy but attentive and precise. All our guests commented on the quality of the food and the suitability of the venue. Many said it was the best wedding reception that they had attended. We would wholeheartedly recommend it.

We stayed here for one night with our daughter 11yrs and her friend. After searching for quite a number of hours on the internet for somewhere decent to stay near Sheffield, this pub came up. After reading the positive reviews we decided to book. This lovely old pub did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived the Manager was most welcoming. Our first impressions were its cleanliness, its decor, and lovely, warm feel. We had our evening meal and breakfast there and the food was absolutely lovely. The rooms were comfortable. Our room (room 1) was the smaller of the 2. It was on the end nearest the road and although a fairly busy one, the fairly constant noise from the traffic didn't really bother us (we live in the country and have no traffic noise whatsoever!). Although the room was not huge there was adequate space and we had the lovely extra of a balcony to sit on. Our daughter and her friend had room 4. This was quite a bit larger - a lovely room also but with no balcony. Either room did not have a bath but as we shower anyway this was not an issue. The manager told us there was only 4 rooms with room 2, 3 and 4 having balconies. All in all we had a lovely stay here. Cleanliness, hospitality, and good food are a must for us and this lovely old pub passed on all 3 things. Would not hesitate to recommend this place and hope to see you again in the not too distant future Cross Scythes!!! Thank you!

Took my sister and her two children (6 and 3) for lunch and was not disappointed. For a start the pub itself is lovely, inside and out, have no idea what the previous reviewer is going on about regarding it needing a refurb as everything has been designed and decorated to a really high standard, comfortable yet smart, loads of choic re seating. Great service, good menu with plenty of choice, I opted for the cheeseburger and it was quality, homemade breadcake and burger, fantastic chips, the children had fish and chips and chicken nuggets and chips from the kids menu and they loved it, I've never known the pair of them so quiet, you could tell it was all made and prepared to order, real chicken breast in batter, and a lovely piece of fish. Could not fault any of it, definitely going back.

We lived locally and decided to stop for a bite to eat. It was early evening and therefore quiet at the bar. We often eat out 2 or 3 times a week and thought we would give it a try. For starters we had the fishcakes and white bait. Both were nice. However, the main course of duck was awful and the mash lumpy and for some strange reason had small chunks of cheese (feta I think). My husband had lamb chops. Overall the food was very average and the price £14.95 for the main courses in a pub (in need of a refurbish) was, I feel, too expensive. We are lucky to have lots of good pub food available in this area so I will not be going back in a hurry.
