We stayed here for one night on the way to York. The pub's large and nicely done out, with excellent real ales. The food's good, not gourmet certainly, but a lot better than a lot of pub food I've had.
The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Our bags were taken and we were shown to our room, with the man who showed us up saying if the room wasn't to our liking we could swap to another. As we both smoke and this room had a balcony, we thought it was fine.
The bedroom was small but very clean, with a well equiped bathroom, flatscreen tv and tea and coffee making stuff. We both slept very well. We had been asked the night before what time we would like breakfast, which was nice, and when we got down everything was waiting for us. The cooked breakfast was great, with the rest of the usual stuff laid out to help ourselves.
We paid £63 for bed and breakfast, which we thought was excellent value and we would certainly recommend The Cross Schythes to anyone thinking of staying in the area.
