“Good buffet, staff slightly keen to up-sell popadoms mind :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Stopped in for the very good and very good value buffet, which met its usual high standards. Staff were friendly and helpful, although slightly keener than usual to sell the high-margin stuff like popadoms :)

Its very good value for buffet curry in Reading (Sundays), food on other days is very good too but prices are more typical for Reading curry houses then.

“Mother's day treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

My son took me here for Mother's Day. At 2pm there were sufficient dinners for a pleasant atmosphere. I liked the spotlessly white linen tablecloth and napkin and a red rose in a vase. We had the buffet. First- poppadums -crisp and delicious and a tray of the normal relishes. Starters- Onion bahjees, chicken wings, naan and salad. The bahjee was good but the naan was like leather. The main course- chicken curries, lamb dishes and vegetable dishes with delicious rice. I enjoyed the combination of flavours. The curries were well cooked but could have been a little hotter- I am not sure the big silver serving dishes keep them as hot as when they are first cooked? At the end, being presented with a single red rose was delightful.

“POOR RESTAURANT”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Don't ever go to this restaurant as they charge you some extra money always. Service is very poor. They do charge for under 2 years as well for the full price.

No one knows how to server. Waiters are not good. We were told to change the place while having food. So much of trouble while having food. Never turn back to that place. Avoid if you can. There are so many other good restaurants out there to eat.

“Good food, poor service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The food was very tasty (both vegetarian and meat dishes) but the service was poor:
1) Our table was ready 25 minutes late
2) Some of the waiters had a very basic understanding of English and what constitutes an acceptable level of service
3) It took 3 attempts and 1 hour to receive serviettes (and then only 1 arrived for a table of 4) and we did not receive face towels at the end of the meal
4) Pappadams worth £6 were incorrectly added to our bill

I am convinced that many of the mistakes were due to it being a very busy Saturday night but based upon past experience and other reviews good food but poor service can be expected.

“Needs some polish, needs better customer care, food good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013 via mobile

Visited on a weds evening when a special fixed price menu was advertised - except that no one seemed to know about it and when we explained they said it was more expensive than on the posters around town.
Initially the staff seemed indifferent and uninterested but after some interaction with one waiter about the special menu he was then much more animated and we felt much more comfortable.
The mixed starters (onion Bahji, chicken tikka, veg wrap and fish batter) were all pleasant and nicely spiced. We opted for lamb dhansak and chicken pathia with Bombay potato and spinach and potato with rice and a pashwari naan. We both thought that the vegetable dishes were all very good, the naan good, the rice good and the chicken well cooked and a nice slightly hot, sour, sweet mix. The lamb dhansak was disappointing in that the lamb was tough and not quite as tasty as a dhansak should be.
Service was prompt, drinks expensive but the place was light and airy and a pleasant atmosphere.
If they can give their staff some training on customer care and can sort out their menus so that they fit with what is advertised then they will be greatly improved - a small investment for what could give a big reward.
We will definitely be back - especially of the fixed price menu becomes a fixture.
