We stayed here for 3 nights and used it as a base to attend Olympic events. It's perfectly located across the road from Reading train station and only a few minutes' walk from Reading's city centre shops and other attractions. The hotel has been converted from a traditional railway hotel to a modern, trendy boutique hotel with railway-themed decor. Our room was of a good size and well-equipped with a big comfortable bed and a good size bathroom with rain shower and deep bathtub. The bar/lounge area had deep squashy sofas and was very relaxing. The restaurant serves an excellent cooked breakfast, plus a good choice of juices, fresh fruit, breads, cold items, porridge, etc. We ate dinner there once and enjoyed our meal, especially the steak. The hotel staff were friendly and professional and helped to make our stay enjoyable.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The brief encounter, that fleeting glance from across the platform, a longing to be with the one you shouldn't...Meet me outside the station at this gloriously converted rail hotel. You shouldn't have this much fun so close to Heathrow, but you will at Mal. You shouldn't find a train set in your room, or a bath big enough for two, for that matter. ... more less
