Loved it! The location is excellent just to the east side of Reading Bridge on the North bank of the Thames, tables are laid out around the river footpath, a large car park is next door (but you cant see it from the barge)... and its actually on the river!
Its ideal for a pot of tea and some cake, or (as we had) very enjoyable cream tea - my wife even asked whether they had Green tea which wasnt on the menu but they did have it and she says it was a fine pot of green tea too!
Sit onshore or on the barge if theres room, my 90 year old Mum is not great at stairs so getting onto the barge was a small challenge but she managed (all the landside seats were taken), and we woulnd up sat in the open air on the barges bow. Feed the ducks, geese and swans while you enjoy taking the weight off and enjoy a good refreshing cup of tea.
It can be busy and it can take a little while to get served but its worth the wait. It is what it is, a tea barge in a great location, lovely staff and great tea and cake!
We visited today and the weather was spot on for enjoying the whole English Al Fresco tea experience, very relaxing and enjoyable. The barge had been booked for a private cruise so they were closing to the public at 15:45 but they were serving as late as they could and there was no pressure to get finished and off the barge.
Limited seating either on shore or on the barge, probably no more than 30 seats at tables on shore and something around 10-15 on the barge (at a guess) excluding the low table and seats on shore that I think was intended for children! They do have a loyalty card available so they are moored for the long term... and a fine addition to the riverfront scene in Reading!
Does exactly what it says on the tin. Very good. Will go back!
