“A perfect break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2011

We chose the Marlborough Arms having read the reviews on Trip Advisor and it exceeded our expectations in all respects. Welcoming hosts who gave us the low-down on local restaurants, beautifully appointed room in ancient coaching inn, with free, private, parking only minutes away from the gates to Blenheim Palace. Oh - and the breakfast was first class, too! If I have to find a "worst point", then the bathroom was somewhat dated, but for the price, it was excellent value.

It was a pleasure to stay here. The owners were incredibly friendly without being too over the top. Their advice of a good place to eat in the evening was appreciated and was a great recommendation. The room we had was spacious and clean with an amazing bathroom. Breakfast was good, relaxed and quiet. The hotel has lots of character as it is very old. Would not be suitable if you are unsteady on your legs. We had several flights of uneven stairs to climb.

I stayed one night only with my daughter and granddaughter but we were all impressed with the friendly reception from our hostess and the comforts of the establishment.
I can unreservedly recommend it.

Clean spacious and comfortable rooms in a charming old hotel. Good breakfasts. Secure parking accessed from a minor road to the rear. Full range of restaurants close by. For mid range we chose The Crown and the slighly better Star Inn.
You can walk to Blenheim Palace as it is 1km door to door. Transfer your entry ticket to an annual pass for no extra charge.
Another bonus is the bus service S3 which has a bus stop right outside and takes 35 min. every half hour to the centre of Oxford. Too good to miss.

My wife and a couple of friends stayed at the Malborough Arms whilst attending a classic car auction nearby last weekend ,and were delighted to have booked in this delightfull "upmarket b and b" I think it is undersold as a b and b, the owners made us welcolme as soon as we arrived directing us to their car park behind the hotel, then showed us to our lovely very tastefully decorated and very large room with a massive very comfotable bed ,and matching "family size shower room"The owners wisely have decided just to do bed and terrific breakfasts and drinks for residents only, as there are plenty of eating places in Woodstock. They recommended an Indian and a Italian for the second noight and they were both delicious. The whole experience was quite splendid I have stayed in Woodstock before, at a far more expensive establishment but I can honestly say that our stay at the Malborough was far more ejoyable and less "starchy".The owners told me that they also do wedding receptions, a great venue I wouuld think N H Norwich

Great rooms large and value for money
Great linen and beds
Window restoration in time would be welcome
Quieter that other hotels on the same busy main road due to thick curtains
Grand new dining room
Just needs wifi then you have the perfect combination which would be a cheap fix then could easily command a higher tariff

If you are looking for somewhere to stay then you cannot do better than this hotel. It was bitterly cold outside but we received the warmest of welcomes once inside. Such a change from the usual indifferent attitude of most hotels.
BTW it is also extremely comfortable but a degree in astrophysics would be an advantage to operate the TV - just joking.
