“Friendly place for tea and a toastie - cakes are particularly fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

The very pretty town of Woodstock has a lot to offer tourists. On the edge of Blenheim Palace, it has boutiques, antique shops, great hotels and eateries, and a lot of English charm. If you want to take the weight off your feet for a while and have a cup of coffee and an excellent cake, I can recommend the buttery. It's a no fuss venue in the centre of town, with pleasant staff and tasty grub.

“Need more staff on the weekend!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

We chose to eat our Sunday breakfast at this quaint little cafe a few doors down from our hotel. Upon entering the cafe there were no visible staff but a few people were eating. We waited 10 minutes for anyone to appear and take our order. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long for our breakfast which was delicious - a full English with nice quality coffee. Unfortunately when it came to leave, we couldn't find our waitress and nearly left the money on the table. We watched 3 groups of people come in and sit down, only to leave 5-10 minutes later without being seen or served. This is such a shame, especially when there are signs hanging up with statements such as "a warm welcome". There is no welcome. With Blenhiem Palace a few hundred yards away, there is an obvious market for customers who might not want to pay the prices at the palace. The owners of this cafe are missing a trick!

“Needs to return to form...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

We've visited the Blenheim Buttery for tea a couple of times and were quite happy. However, on our third visit we suspected that the baked potato we ordered had been over/reheated too many times, and the Welsh rarebit was rather burnt and dry. The kind of food served here is not rocket science, and it wouldn't take much effort to make sure that it can always be served with pride by the enthusiastic young staff. Could just have been an off day - hope it'll be back on form next time.

“Very pleasant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

It is very cute and idyllic, particularly at the front which is more of a cafe than the back, which is more of a formal restaurant. It's extremely cosy and comfortable and offers a nice variety of snacks, meals and drinks. Staff are very friendly and nice. We ordered afternoon tea and soup which was lovely. I would definitely go back!

“Cosy and rustic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

Popped in here while visiting Woodstock. At the front there is a cafe with a cosy, rustic feel, and a more formal restaurant area at the back.Sat on a comfortable cushioned window seat, unfortunately the table hadn't been cleared.A waitress promptly cleared the table, but didn't wipe the milk and sugar stains off it.I wasn't sure whether it was waitress service,so after 5 minutes waiting asked at the counter.A waitress took our order and served us quite quickly.A pot of tea for £2 which serves nearly 3 cups,a strong cup of cappuccino and a thick, generous piece of shortbread.Paid at the counter, which is more convenient than waiting for the bill at the table.the couple seated next to us had been waiting 15-20 minutes to be served, and after no-one took their order, walked out.Quite a pleasant cafe, but the certificate awarding them 5/5 for cleanliness didn't ring true, not for our table anyway!
