“Best Indian in Oxford.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Excellent menu with real good flavour and a nice balance of spices - quite rightly this place is busy.

“Great food and friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

I have been to Chutney's several times and have never been disappointed. The décor does leave a little to be desired, as other reviewers have commented on, but it's a simple, cosy place and I go there for the good food rather than the surroundings. The mixed starters are delicious and a great way to sample some different things from the menu. I have also had several of the currys, both meat and vegetarian, from the menu and they are always delicious and authentic. I find it a little pricey for an Indian restaurant, but overall worth a visit!

“Roaming Oxford Street = WONDERFUL INDIAN FOOD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

This place was packed with partying college students dining in and studying students picking up "take away" orders. The staff was very attentive and found a table for us almost immediately--though it was super crowded. We just chose this place as we were walking by it and we were delighted with our choice. Food was fresh and very good--we loved everything we ordered. If you like Indian food you will love this place.

“Not your typical Indian restauant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

This Indian restaurant is more like a low budget cafe as far as the deco is concerned - no plush seating, indian artefacts or rich colours. That said, the food was lovely and it was very busy (always a good sign). Not really a place for a quiet romantic meal.

“Convenient but average...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Booked a late evening table for a post- Theatre supper. As it happened the place was mostly empty on arrival at around 10:45pm on a Saturday.

Our waiter's English was not great and we had some trouble ordering - I have no problem with this, just disappointed that he didn't seem to have any sense of humor... and in general the staff were uncommunicative and not very welcoming.

The food was OK - nothing exceptional, and at around £9.00 for a main dish a bit expensive based on the decor (very cafe style) and facilities (rubbish toilets etc...).

Expected more from a central Oxford establishment - but there you go. It was only a one minute walk from the Theatre.

Oh - The Cobra beer was excellent!
