“The best breakfast ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

I stay in hotels fairly regularly for work which are typically around the price range of this hotel. I have never had such a fantastic breakfast at a hotel. The pastries are the sort you would only expect at a local bakery. Room was lovely and modern but in a nice old building. The landlord is entertaining in an eccentric kind of way. This is the only hotel I have ever stayed at where I would try to find a reason to visit the area just so I can stay there again!

My husband and I stayed here for a night while on a visit to Oxford. Our room was big, comfortable and spotless. The bathroom was lovely, with very nice toiletries supplied for use during our stay. We didn't eat at the bear as the meals seemed a little pricey (we ate in the vine inn just up the road, which was nice). Breakfast at the bear was very tasty and set us up for full day of sightseeing. The staff were very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we enjoyed our stay. Cumnor is only a few miles from Oxford and it's well worth using the park and ride- much cheaper and easier than parking in town. We'd definitely stay at the bear again if we are visiting the area.

We stayed at the Bear and Ragged Staff last night and were so tempted to stay longer. From the minute we walked through the door to the time we left the staff were professional, helpful and friendly. Although there were only two of us we stayed in room 8, the family room. I can truly recommend this room for a family but found it fantastically spacious for just the two of us. Our evening meal was delicious and very well presented as was breakfast.
Five minute drive away is the park and ride we used to get into Oxford. This lovely quiet location was ideal for us.
Highly recommended.

We stayed here a couple of months ago just haven't had chance to write the review until now. I can't fault anything, the only fault is ours...that we didn't get there earlier to spend more time there. We arrived evening time and almost missed the food service but they thankfully they squeezed our order through before the kitchen closed. We stayed in one of the top rooms (the original landlords arae) and the room and particularly the bathroom was stunning. The bedroom was cosy but full of character and managed fine even with a travel cot for our baby, the bathroom was huge and super luxurious. There was a fantastic choice for breakfast too. The place had a real homely feel, great character throughout, friendly staff and more. Can't wait for a return visit so we can spend more time in the pub and check out the menu properly.

We spent 2 nights at this extremely comfortable pub/hotel. We were in the Landlords room up behind the bar. The room had been recently refurbished to a high standard. Excellent bathroom which was also nice &warm. Lovely comfy bed with the best linen . The 2 meals we had were not cheap but food excellent , breakfast too was good (Although I would have appreciated some muesli) The cooked breakfast portions were large and wholesome. A very good break , nicely done.

Room Tip: Other reports say the outside rooms are very good. The landlords room was the most expensive but we...

Couldn't have asked for better. Fabulous atmosphere, gorgeous rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant was busy on a weekday and the food was extremely tasty. All of the rooms within the original building have been refurbished this year and lovely touches such as the selection of twining teas and cafetiere coffee added to a very pleasant stay. Breakfast was plentiful with a choice of cooked and continental breakfast or both! Will stay here again when we next visit Oxford.
