Go here often to see shows, never had a problem, the staff are always lovely, it is a nice, clean theatre and quite comfy.

“Very good venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Good venue where we enjoyed a concert by the a capella group 'Out of the Blue'. Well designed auditorium with comfortable seats, and helpful, well-trained staff. The foyer does get crowded, but then that is true of most small theatres. Would certainly make the trip up to Oxford (from London) again to see OOTB here.

“Lovely cosy theatre-great celebrating NYE with Gary Barlow!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

My husband and I arrived at this lovely theatre and joined the very fast moving queue to enter this beautiful building. Staff were all friendly & helpful. Plenty of aptmoshere in this quaint theatre, the sound and accoustics were great, seats were brilliant in the lower circle, my only critism would be that there is not a lot of leg room, but this is the norm for majority of theatres of a certain age. This said the seats were comfortable and our view of the stage although stated restricted view was excellent. I througly enjoyed spending New Years Eve with Gary Barlow and if he appeared here again I would definitely return, well worth the 2 hour journey from Southend-on-Sea!

“Horrible old fleapit”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Sorry but this place has very little going for it... As others have mentioned, it has no parking nearby so is very difficult for anyone with access issues. Once inside (we piled in with the masses as it opened to get out of the rain) it seems crowded and small, and it smacks of cheap entertainment (some of it isn't) and you are bombarded with everything you don't want to sit and watch/listen to anything in the theatre (sweets/drinks/glowsticks/etc etc). We had a coffee in the downstairs bar where the Christmas tree lights hadn't been turned on (said everything, really...). The auditorium could have been wonderful in its Art Deco heyday but those days have long gone, and the theatre owners obviously don't see fit to restore it to its former glory. To top it all I sat on my (very expensive) seat after the interval and fell flat on the floor. Maintenance called to do a quick fix for the second act! Honestly, it's not really what you'd call a night out...

“Soulless”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Rather frighteningly small/crowded foyer area but the auditorium here is only place in the city big enough for big shows. Hard to work up a feeling of atmosphere and no nearby parking.
