I always try to drop in at the Catweazle Club when in Oxford on a Thursday night. You get to hear twenty or more random performances of song, poetry, performance... The good the bad and the ugly... I especially recommend it if you like to perform, not just listen. You have to arrive a little earlier in the evening and give in your name. If you arrive early enough, you will probably get a slot. Sometimes people who have never done anything in public before decide to have a go. The nice thing is that even if your performance is rubbish, you won't be jeered or have rotten fruit thrown at you. The audience is very sympathetic and they know that each number will be over in five minutes, so they are generally good-natured. To be honest, going to a bar or a pub for a drink does not count as "night-life" in my book. Here is a place where at any moment something brilliant might be about to happen... And it could be you yourself making it happen. That is what I call night LIFE.
