“Good B&B in a great location and a lovely breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2011

I have just come back from a two night stay with friends and we found the Newton a nice B&B. It is a ten minute walk into town or the city centre bus (cost us £1 each) stops outside. The staff are friendly and the cooked breakfast was very nice (cereals, yoghurt, fruit as well as cooked available). Our room (14) suited our needs although it needs a spruce up but my friends (11) was smart and modern I was quite jealous!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2011

I stayed at the Newton House for 6 nights while attending a conference at Oxford. The best thing about the Newton is its location and price. Its a 10 minute walk to the City Center and buses run to and from town right in front of the guesthouse. We had a room with a bay window, facing the street on the first floor and the noise from the street was no issue for us when the windows were closed. When open, naturally you can hear the traffic but the neighborhood is quiet in terms of pedestrians. We had a twin - and the room was small (meaning not a lot of floor space) and the accommodations were very basic. No desk or table for writing - just a small table that holds the electric coffee/tea service. It had a hair dryer. We had an ensuite (not all rooms do). The bathroom was small, but adequate for our purposes. The shower was VERY small. When washing my hair, my elbows often hit the glass shower doors. The toilet in our room did not flush easily and often took several attempts. Very little closet space if you have to hang up "professional" clothes. The room was clean and had housekeeping every day. The beds were VERY soft - which for us was not a good thing. The staff was very helpful and tended to our every need, but are not there in the evenings or over night. There is no reception. The decor ranges from basic to dingy (judging from the entryway, hallways and our room). The exception is the breakfast room which we found very charming (the picture on the Newton's website does not do it justice). If you want to sleep in or sleep during the day, I would suggest avoiding rooms 11 and 12, as they line the entry way which can be noisy and are directly over the breakfast room which can be noisy during breakfast. Overall, we were pleased enough as we were out most of the time, and the location was excellent. Breakfasts were freshly prepared and arrived very quickly. Food was very good with veggie hot items.

The location, room, ensuite and breakfast were fantastic.
One draw back is the noise. The walls and floors appear to be quite thin, but this is an older house and is understandable.
Quite enjoyed our stay.

Well located with a car park. We walked in to town in less than 15 mins and used the buses as well which stopped right outside and were cheap. The B & B was lovely inside, old/antique and non-matching furniture which was most endearing but also up to date digital TV and (apparently) Wifi. Comfortable beds and fully functioning shower room, no complaints at all. Breakfast excellent, and the waitress listened to and fulfilled my order perfectly (well done!). Friendly, well spoken and polite staff. A pleasure.
If this were my B & B I would just tidy up the front a bit, get some new plants and repaint the front door!
We would stay here again

I found this hotel to be comfortable in every way. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Our room was pleasant, very clean, recently updated, modern, as was the whole interior of the building, so far as we saw. The somewhat busy road outside didn't affect our stay, but the walk into the centre wasn't particularly appealing.

From my point of view this B and B was long on comfort, short on problems, maybe not very interesting in its own right but a very pleasant place to stay while visiting Oxford.

Good location. Very clean, comfortable, lovely room & generous supply of tea/coffee/chocolate & milk. Staff extremely helpful, Good breakfast- even offered vegetarian without being asked. Centre of Oxford only a 10 min walk, or bus stop very close. Very nice pub close by and a spar supermarket next door.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2010

Stayed for two nights over the weekend and paid what I would consider quite a steep rate for a B&B, but that being the case, it was relatively cheap when compared to other B&B accommodation in the city. The hotel room was a decent size and the bed comfortable but overall the hotel decor was very tired.

On a more positive note, the hotel had high standards of cleanliness, with the bathroom in particular being exemplary, even though it was a little dated.

The breakfast was good, being both plentiful and tasty and the staff were lovely and friendly.

Overall I would recommend the hotel, I am sure that there are better appointed B&Bs in Oxford but most probably more expensive.
