We booked at the Marlborough House Hotel on the advice of another Oxford hotelier, as most places in town were full because it was graduation time. Our stay had none of the horror stories narrated by other guests, though it must be said that the receptionist who promised to book a taxi for our early departure on a Sunday morning simply forgot about it (as she forgot her promise to put some croissants in our room the night before). We nonetheless caught our bus to Heathrow on time, and the staff was otherwise very courteous.
The rooms were big and spotlessly clean, and our sleep was not troubled during the two nights we stayed there. The fact that breakfast is served in the room was actually not a problem, except on the morning of our departure. What was more of a drawback was the distance from town, but buses were pretty frequent, and the neighbourhood, very pleasant.
