“3 night stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

Lovely setting. Extremely nice staff. Short walk into Oxford centre, but plenty of buses to the centre for connections to Blenheim etc.

We weren't told about the complimentary bar! Only found out about it when we got home after reading other reviews. Long walk to bedroom. Bathroom lovely - looked as if it had just been refurbished, but can't be as complementary about the bedroom. We booked a Connoisseur room but it fell short of expectations - nice curtains, but the other soft furnishings were rather well worn & jaded. No air conditioning but couldn't open windows due to wasps!, therefore room was very hot.

Very early (11am) room vacancy. Felt rather rushed as at least 4 members of staff knocked on the door to ask if it was ready for cleaning.

Room Tip: Ask for an air conditioned room if they have them.

The staff were all friendly, from reception down to the housekeeping staff all said hello when we passed them.

The room was large and clean and felt recently refurbished, but a little corporate, it's the sort of place you'd go for a conference, but is still comfortable. Our room was very quiet at the back, through a maze of corridors.

Sleep interrupted by a fire alarm but not their fault. About 15mins walk to the city centre which is pretty good.

A little pricey for what it is but probably the best at that range in the area.

A good location and setting, but the rooms are average at best, service and attention to detail was awful. The hotel itself is being refurbished, unfortunately this means that there is a lot of noise in the rooms.
The standard of service was well below a 4 star rating, inattentive staff and a chaotic all-day extravaganza of cleaning that was inconsistent and disruptive.

This hotel has the luxury of few competitors in the local area and capitalists on this. There is little motivation for them to offer quality service for conferences or guests. A disappointing venue that has so much more potential.

The frequent fire alarm evacuations are a joke!

I stayed at the Four Pillars whilst in Oxford for a wedding. I therefore didn't see much of it other than my room, but overall it seemed a pretty good compromise - close enough to the city centre to be convenient, but far enough out to be quiet and provide plenty of space. The room was typical of a business chain - clean and functional.
At £165 for the night, it was expensive for what it is but it's less than The Randolph, Mal Maison and Old Bank Hotels - all a league above this but unless you go for a B&B you won't find much cheaper during peak tourist season within 1 mile of the centre.
On the downside, they hadn't processed our booking by the time we arrived which was a little frustrating and there was a fire alarm at 1 am which wasn't their fault but it made for an average night's sleep nonetheless.

The newly refurbished rooms are finished to a high standard and are well finished. The hotel itself is a little out of town but the facilities were great and the staff were helpful, polite and always welcoming. I would recommend this as a great place to stay.

We selected this hotel as it seemed reasonable and a good location. It is a "chain"and a bit corporate, however we found the staff helpful, polite and friendly. We had booked the hotel for special anniversary were given a free upgrade and a small gift- nice touches that cost the hotel very little. The location is an easy walking distance from Oxford ( take a torch if you intend to take the river path in the dark!) parking is free and the breakfast a good quality buffet. We would definitely stay again.

Whilst staying near-by we decided to have dinner again in this well established modern hotel that is located just out of centre of Oxford and near to the rural banks of the Thames

As usual we were immediately greeted by our waiter and offered a choice of tables.

We found the menu extensive, together with the reasonably priced wine list. We were not hustled to make any decisions even-though the staff were very pleasant and attentive. Our wine bottle, in an iced bucket, was served promptly together with our starters and then our main courses. We were not rushed to choose our desserts and all the food was very well presented plus of an excellent quality and value for money.

Overall an outstanding experience!.
