“Don't hand them your credit card!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2007

We arrived on a Saturday to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. As at all hotels, we were asked for our credit card number during check-in. There seemed to be some confusion as to whether the room had been paid for and I told them that I had paid Easy Jet Hotels already. The Duty Manager was still unsure and promised that she would leave a message for us confirming that payment had been received by the hotel. As we knew that we had paid, we specifically asked that they NOT take any money from our credit card without our permission. The next day we checked out after a pleasant visit to Oxford's colleges and a rather average meal at the hotel's restaurant, where the tables are so close together, there is no privacy and which was freezing as the front door was blocked on 'open' - (a technical fault I believe). Even though we had not received a message as promised by the Duty Manager; upon checkout, it was confirmed by Reception that we did not owe anything other than £74 for the previous evening's dinner, which we paid for. However, a few weeks later at home, when our credit card bill arrived, we noticed that the hotel had taken the money from our credit card, (even though we had already paid for the room), TOTALLY WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. The hotel are unable to supply us with any evidence that we agreed to pay, (because there ISN'T ANY), and refuse to refund us, leaving us to deal with Easy Jet Hotels, who have, unlike the very unprofessional Holiday Inn Group, kindly agreed to refund us in full for the errors of the Holiday Inn, Oxford. We are truly disgusted at the dishonest manner in which this hotel has taken money from our credit card, with no permission WHATSOEVER and no apology at all. A hotel to be truly avoided in our opinion, and if you do stay, don't hand over your credit card unless you want it debited without your permission!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2007

I spent two nights in this hotel whilst attending meetings in the centre of Oxford. The park and ride system is excellent - there was always a bus waiting at the terminal (5 minutes walk from the hotel) and they came back from the city when they were timetabled to do so. I paid £65 per night for room & breakfast, which was excellent value and compared favourably with hotels in the centre of Oxford, where parking is often difficult and expensive.

The hotel itself was one of the better Holiday Inns. A spacious tastefully decorated room with a comfortable bed and all of the usual features. Minor complaints are that although there was a mini-bar, it was empty and the "wardrobe" had no door. Good pool and a decent breakfast with attentive staff.

The only significant complaint about the stay was that at 10am on a Sunday morning there was only one person working at reception and so there was a queue of about 5 people waiting to check out.

Recommended as long as you don't mind the 15 minute bus ride into central Oxford.

  • Liked — Very quiet rooms despite being next to a very busy road
  • Disliked — Queue at Reception at check out
