“Sunny and sweet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2012

I was at a conference in Oxford in the end of March and unbelievably, the weather was warm and sunny the whole time. This enhanced the experience at the Galaxie hotel which has a beautiful glass-walled breakfast hall with a lovely patio where I spent a whole morning working enjoying the sun and the great service. The best part of the hotel is the service - you feel like they really care for you as a guest but without being overbearing, attending fully to your needs but not interfering in your privacy. This is such a rare combination and it makes you feel at ease immediately.
The rooms are OK - mine was not really big and so my theory of there being no really spacious hotel rooms in England was not disproved, but it was cosy and clean. And the bathroom I had was great, quite big with a cool shower and with natural light. I did miss a fridge though - I like to have my own food and could not store stuff I wanted... On the other hand, there is easily accessible free broadband internet everywhere in the hotel.
Although it is some way out of Oxford city, the bus stop is just in front of the hotel and it never took more than 15 minutes to get in or to get home, even at late night. And there are great shops, coffee places, pubs and eateries just around the hotel so you don't need to go far to have a nice time when you had enough of the city. In short, I can recommend it as a great alternative to downtown hotels in Oxford, if you want some nice space and kindness around you,

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bigger bathroom that has natural light.

Stayed here for two night's 24/25th Feb 2012. Wife and I just wanted a short break and sight see around Oxford. The room (33) was compact but adequate, clean with wooden floor. We had a shower room with clean towels each morning. We had to negotiate as you could only open one door at a time due to the closeness but not a major issue, the hotel staff are very friendly, the check in was swift and quite informative. The hotel has a small lift to help with suitcases. There is no bar or evening eating facilities but not needed. The breakfast is a plenty with all you can eat hot and cold food and drinks. There is great parking at this hotel which is a great bonus as Oxford is not very car friendly. City centre was about 20/25 mins walk away but there is a bus stop outside for the less adventurous. There is a pub Drew Drop Inn 2 mins walk away that do good food and Ale, restaurants are a plenty on the door step. I think this hotel was fine for our weekend needs and a good base to the city centre

Stayed here for a girls weekend away (away from husbands & kids) and loved it. We had three twin rooms which were fabulous. Breakfast had a huge choice & hotel had great decor. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

I stayed at the Galaxie whilst on business recently; I was very impressed. The hotel is very modern and is within easy access of Oxford's city center. I stayed in Room 44 which overlooks the hotel's garden. The room was much larger than I have come to expect from modern hotels. The staff were very welcoming and could not have done more to cater for my needs. I thought that the hotel was great value for money and I will certainly be staying at the Galaxie when I am next in oxford!

I stay here often and can recommend it to others. The people treat me like family, the breakfast is great, all the rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. Its a short bus ride into the centre along Banbury road - 10 mins so easy to get to town. There's some nice restaurants in Summertown too so you can pop out in the evening. Galaxie has to be the best value in Oxford.

Room Tip: Face the back unless you are used to City noises

Upon entering the hotel you are surprised by the size. A welcoming arrival by those at front of house. Check in was easy and was shown to my room. Going through to the dining and lounge area which is lovely and decorated nicely and very spacious.
The room was very clean and well laid out and modern (as were the other 5 rooms my friends were staying in.)
The breakfast was lovely and there was a great range to choose from in the morning from cereals to fry ups.
On the whole, an excellent place to stay for the night or weekend.
