The pub was nice. It wasn't very old looking like the other pubs in oxford, though the food was good.

“nice little pub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Fairly standard pub food and drink. Everything OK but nothing outstanding. Seemed to do a good range of food and drink and it was nice to get away down the alley out of the crowds in the main street.

“Decent enough.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Considering it was Sunday without booking - luckily enough they had some places. The beer choice was good. The food was ok. my roast could have done with a bit more on the plate. But overall a good exeperience and good service.

“Keep at large”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

It was the literary connexion that had drawn us to it for dinner. The place was far from full.
Once seated by the waitress, we waited a quarter of an hour for the menus and onlt got them becaiuse I went to the counter to ask if we'd been forgotten.
The menus were eventually brought to us but on delivering them, the waitress announced a long list of dishes that were no longer available. We should have raised camp then and there but the fish and chips (in the large version) were apparently available, so we pplaced our order and waited. And waited, and waited. A long time after, the girl came back saying that there was only one portion of cod, but we could have haddock instead. We were hungry and okayed the offer. Another wait. then she came back saying there were only small portions. Our patience was getting thin but we accepted the idea of small portions. When she came back aeons later to say that after all there was no more cod, we left to the apparent amazement of the staff who didn't see where the problem was and no doubt imputed our leaving to a bout of Gallic temper. The Italian restaurant right across the street in Golden Cross Court is excellent...

“Service was so slow and expensive pub grub”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

My pork belly was too well done and lacked a deal of meat. All the meals were just ok. We were so hungry at the time so we just dug in. The lady who took our order was great but she must have gone for lunch or something. After that the service was so slow. We waited a good 30 mins for mains and then it took 30 mins to get someone to take our pudding order, which then took a age to arrive. I noticed a number of people were waiting to pay or for change. Over priced, average food and service that was way to slow.
