“Lovely pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Decent ale, nice big old fireplace and an atmospheric feel to the place. Good to spend an hour or two over a couple of pints. Shame they don't do meals in the evening but all in all somewhere we'll return to.

“Best pub but no food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

The atmosphere is superb. Friendly and not intimidating to us non-locals. Great beers choices. Besides, Tolkein and C.S. Lewis used to drink here. The only warning is that unlike most pubs there is no food service

“Great little pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

We didn't stay for the food, but went back twice to sample the local ales and Pimms. It has lots of college memoribilia and a friendly, helpful staff.

“Good deed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

The best thing about this pub is that it sponsors people to do PhDs. An amount from every drink bought is added to a fund, which is then used to pay fees and stipends for around 4-5 PhD students a year.

The pub itself serves the usual South Eastern beer, pretty awful, but perhaps the locals like it. We didn't eat here.

“Full of history - lacking service and a little atmosphere...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

The Lamb and Flag was really close to where I stayed so I went by there at least a couple times a day. One night during the stay we decided to try it. At first I thought it was a nice place and good atmosphere. After getting a drink, my friends and I went to sit at a room further back where we could all be together. I found disorganized furniture, just as if we were coming in at closing time. In fact we were.. when we noticed bar was about to close as 11pm we rushed to bartenders and asked for last drinks. He just wouldn't sell them anymore. And it was not even 11. It always surprises me when I go to places where staff doesn't want to make more profit or offer excelent customer service. Well, after that, never came back.
