“DAUGHTER'S WEDDING DAY”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I attended my daughter's wedding reception at the Hawkwell. We had gone to great lengths to make sure everything was arranged correctly with the hotel.
Unfortunately the hotel did not follow our instruction as to the dietary requirements of one of our Gluten free guests.
I had sent several Emails beforehand and right up until the day to make sure my guest was catered for.
My guest became very unwell immediately after his meal and had to retire to his room for the rest of the day.
I reported this to the supervisor at the event early evening but was met with little response and denial that this should happen.
I spoke to the manager the next day who agreed to refund his room fee which was the least that they could do.
My daughter was most upset that this should happen to one of her guests on her wedding day.
I have since spoken to the manager due to his denial and response to my daughter's previous review of this hotel. If a mistake is made I feel they should have been gracious enough to accept it and apologise appropriately.
Other than this we had a pleasant stay and on the whole the hotel staff were very pleasant as were the rooms and surrounding area.
A little dissappointed that building works were taking place outside some rooms.

I stay at Hawkwell atleast 4 times a year. The last one being May 2013. I never got down to writing a review though. This hotel is very good. The rooms are well kept and some of them are spacious. The breakfast is not buffet but the menu offers a good selection. Location is great and all staff are helpful. Have not had many meals so would not be able to comment on food quality.

Adding a gym will make this a perfect place to stay while in Oxford.

Back in July!

Room Tip: Not stayed in the outhouse but heard not very good. Go for the main Hotel.

We enjoyed a very relaxing one night stay at Hawkwell House, service was excellent, the hotel is in a great location and the room was very comfortable
I would have no hesitation with recommending this hotel and hope to stay here again sometime soon.

I stayed in Room 415 in Elm House and it was very comfortable. It was a single but had a small double bed - very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and the shower worked well. Breakfast was delicious, with a plentiful choice served by friendly staff. The fresh fruit salad and greek yogurt followed by the full english breakfast set me up for the day! We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was good. The location was great for me and my friends. We enjoyed the stroll down to the river and found the bus service into the city very handy. The reception staff were very helpful. I would love to come back to this hotel in the future; it's a great place to stay.

Room Tip: My friends stayed in Room 102. This had a large bath and was conveniently located on the ground flo...

We stayed one night here and I had the best nights sleep I have ever had in a hotel. It was so quiet even though a wedding reception was being held there, and the four poster bed was very comfortable! The staff were all lovely. Hawk well house is perfectly located for Oxford. It is just a short bus ride away so you can have the city experience with the bonus of sleeping in a village.

Just arrived home from a two night stay at this hotel , loved it . The staff are one of its biggest assets along with the super comfy mattresses , really impressed. A walk through the village and the tow path by the river into Oxford took us 40 minutes , a pleasure , plenty of seats if you want a break. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay , many thanks ,and our niece got a 2.1 woo hoo!

Room Tip: Smile! And ask for their advice, ours was on second floor and quiet

We'd been warned about the nightmare of having a car in Oxford so chose this hotel for its location, a £6 taxi ride to Magdalen College but far enough away to offer some peace and quiet as well as the need for easy parking for two nights. Reception staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient. Check-in took less than 60 seconds! Our ground floor room overlooking the main car park and close to the dining room proved to be much quieter than I feared when I saw where it was. In any event it was convenient because we had a lot of luggage for a month long holiday. Neither the hotel or the room are anything special but the bathroom had been renovated and everything we needed was there. The hotel provides a choice of cooked breakfast included in the price which seemed reasonable. It's never going to win any prizes but it's cost effective.

As a bonus, a half a mile stroll down the quiet lane from the hotel is the Prince of Wales pub which provides not just lovely meals (we eat there both nights), but is especially great value and the hosts are the most friendly I’ve ever encountered in a pub.
